COWANSVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 30, 2012) - On June 29, 2012, at approximately 8 p.m., two inmates were assaulted at Cowansville Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary.
The victims were immediately assessed by staff and taken to an outside hospital. They are now in stable condition. No staff or other inmates were injured during this incident.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The police have been advised.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the CSC.
