Tuesday, July 10, 2012 6:07 PM

IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of information and analytics, today announced the appointment of Pulitzer Prize-winning author and IHS Executive Vice President Dr. Daniel Yergin to the new post of IHS Vice Chairman.

“At IHS, we are building a company unlike any other – connecting customers to information, insight and analytics in valuable new ways,” said IHS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jerre Stead. “Dan’s new position as Vice Chairman underscores the global commitment of IHS to constantly monitor and analyze the heartbeat of the world economy. It enables Dan to contribute his insight and creativity across our entire company and the industries we serve, as well continuing his thought leadership in energy, as IHS continues to evolve as the source for information and insight into global economy.”

Yergin is the author of two landmark books on energy: The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World , a recent New York Times bestseller, and The Prize, for which he received the Pulitzer Prize. He became part of IHS eight years ago when it acquired the company he founded, Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA).

“It has been very exciting to be part of IHS as it has built its distinctive position in the world economy with Jerre Stead’s leadership and vision, and in collaboration with outstanding colleagues,” Yergin said. “IHS deploys formidable capabilities and a commitment to analyze and understand the changes in the global economy, including energy, which the current times so clearly require. The scale, reach and quality of IHS make it unique in the world of information.”

Stead added that, “In addition to his broader role, Dan will continue to play his widely recognized leadership role in the global energy industry and at the forefront of the rapidly expanding IHS energy sector. He will also continue as Chairman of our annual IHS CERAWeek.”

IHS has dramatically expanded its energy knowledge base over the past few years, gaining experts, products and solutions through key acquisitions including Cambridge Energy Research Associates, John S. Herold, Purvin & Gertz, Emerging Energy Research, McCloskey Coal and others.

“The expansion means that IHS researchers can now address the most complex customer challenges that require both deep energy expertise and expertise from other markets and sectors,” Stead noted.
