McAfee
today announced that leading research firm Gartner, Inc. has placed the
company in the leaders quadrant in its “Magic Quadrant for Intrusion
Prevention Systems” as published on July 5, 2012. Gartner’s research
examined leading vendors who offer solutions in the intrusion prevention
systems (IPS) marketplace.
“IPS devices are deployed in line and perform full-stream reassembly of
network traffic. They provide detection via several methods —
signatures, protocol anomaly detection, behavioral or heuristics. By
being in-line, IPSs can also use various techniques to block attacks
that are identified with high confidence. The capabilities of IPS
products need to adapt to changing threats and next-generation IPSs
(NGIPSs) have evolved in response to advanced targeted threats evading
first-generation IPSs.1”
“We believe McAfee’s position in the leaders quadrant demonstrates the
performance, value, and strength of both McAfee Network Security
Platform and McAfee Security Connected, our unique approach to sharing
security intelligence and event feeds across several security
solutions,” said Pat Calhoun, SVP & GM of Network Security at McAfee.
“In order to protect against today’s sophisticated attacks, your network
security has to have the ability to understand environmental factors
that extend far beyond its physical placement in the network. McAfee
Network Security Platform does that today.”
McAfee, the global leader in network intrusion prevention systems (IPS),
delivers unprecedented levels of security while offering flexible
deployment options that allow organizations to optimize investments
in network security. McAfee Network Security Platform provides category-best
security effectiveness, scalable multigigabit performance, and
next-generation network IPS controls that take the guesswork out of network
security management.
