More Innovative Enhancements for Mississippi's Award-Winning State Website

Wednesday, July 25, 2012 1:56 PM

After the successful January launch of the first significant overhaul in over a decade, ms.gov continues to provide cutting-edge, award-winning features. Recently added enhancements include geolocation mapping, a mobile application, and a social media aggregator that advances the State’s official website in terms of usability, design, functionality, and innovation. The 2012 ms.gov is a landmark eGovernment accomplishment for Mississippi as part of the State’s quest to greatly improve online service delivery to citizens and businesses.

“One of the most exciting features included in the recent ms.gov enhancements is the launch of Mississippi’s first official State portal iPhone application,” said Dr. Craig Orgeron, Mississippi’s Chief Information Officer. “With this dynamic new app, ms.gov visitors can interact with state government via a robust and widely used mobile platform.” The app, available for free download from iTunes, includes features like news, alerts, and social media feeds integrated with native iPhone applications, mobile citizen photo submissions to ms.gov’s Flickr feed, and State entity mapping through the iPhone’s location services.

The addition of these new features has not gone unnoticed. Just months after launching, ms.gov has been honored with a number of national awards including three Awards of Distinction in the 18th Annual Communicator Awards and a “Best in Class” Interactive Media Award in the Government category.

With development and maintenance efforts currently valued at over $350,000, the redesigned ms.gov was accomplished at no cost to the State or citizens using a self-funded model with Mississippi’s eGovernment partner, Mississippi Interactive (MSI).
