Monster to Host Thought Leadership Event on Recruiting Emerging Workforce through Social Media

Monday, July 30, 2012 12:25 PM

On August 9th, Monster.com®, the worldwide leader in connecting people to job opportunities, will head to Washington, DC to hold the third in a series of social recruiting summits to share best practices with employers and college career centers on how to reach the next generation of job candidates through social media and networking platforms, such as Facebook.

This event, “Preparing for Today’s Emerging Workforce,” will take place at the SmartBrief Headquarters in the metro Washington, DC area on Thursday, August 9th. The event will connect Monster with the educational community for an in-depth look at how to educate, reach and recruit the next generation of job candidates through social media and online networking platforms. Mark Story, “Author of Starting Your Career as a Social Media Manager,” will give the opening keynote on Millennials and Social Media. Panels focusing on using social media to help close the skills gap and social media best practices will include participants from LivingSocial, Discovery Communications, SmartBrief and Johns Hopkins University.

“As social media has become mainstream, the ways we interact online have rapidly shifted. It’s crucial for the next generation of employees and HR Professionals alike to understand these changes and adapt their respective strategies to keep pace with today’s hiring realities.” says Tom Chevalier, Director of Product Marketing for Monster. “Monster is excited to discuss with the participants the current market situation and explore what the future holds – what companies will need and how universities can prepare these social-native young professionals.”

More than 40 college career center representatives are confirmed to attend from top schools in the Washington, DC area including American University, George Washington University, Howard University, James Madison University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland University College. In 2011, Monster demonstrated its leadership in social recruitment with the launch of BeKnown™, the professional networking app for Facebook, which provides the emerging workforce with the ability to share relevant education, skills and professional experience with the world. BeKnown also facilitates conversation between employees and potential candidates to drive high quality referrals and allows visitors to follow their company and become part of the future talent pipeline.
