Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC), a global professional
services firm providing advice and solutions in risk, strategy and human
capital, announced today that LEED Gold certification has been awarded
to its Phoenix, Arizona, office, and Silver certification has been
awarded to its office in Morristown, New Jersey. LEED (Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design) is the U.S. Green Building Council's
certification system for the design, construction and operation of green
buildings.
These LEED certifications bring the total for the Company’s real estate
portfolio to five awards, including four Gold certifications and one
Silver certification.
"Marsh & McLennan Companies has always placed value in providing
comfortable, healthy workplaces for its employees, and has established a
firm commitment to pairing this core principle with the creation of
sustainable spaces that better serve the environment,” said Elizabeth
Barry, Chief Sustainability Officer, Marsh & McLennan Companies.
The Company’s Marsh and Mercer subsidiaries are co-located within the
Phoenix LEED-certified building at 2325 East Camelback Road, where 180
employees occupy approximately 37,000 square feet of the 11-story
building. The Company’s examination of lighting power, water
conservation and energy, and its use of construction materials and
furniture with high levels of recycled content, much extracted
regionally or manufactured locally, resulted in a space that is
reflective of Marsh & McLennan Companies’ culture and business, and
friendly to the environment.
The Company’s office at 445 South Street in Morristown, New Jersey,
which houses 240 employees from Marsh & McLennan Companies subsidiaries
Marsh, Mercer and Guy Carpenter, was awarded the Silver LEED
distinction, after the 54,376 square foot space was reconditioned to
enhance energy optimization, thermal comfort and the use of recycled
content, including low-emitting materials for better air quality.
Marsh & McLennan Companies is committed to reducing its environmental
impact by continuing to create environmentally friendly spaces for its
global workforce. In addition to incorporating sustainable practices in
its own operations, Marsh & McLennan Companies offers an array of
environmental risk management solutions and services to assist its
clients in analyzing, reducing and managing their own environmental
impact.
