Embedded Computing Design Magazine Picks MIPS for Top Award

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for home entertainment, networking, mobile and embedded applications, announced today that its new Aptiv™ Generation of microprocessor cores has been recognized as the "Top Innovative Product of 2012" by Embedded Computing Design (ECD) magazine in the publication's first annual Innovative Products contest. Out of the more than 60 nominees published in the June 2012 issue of the magazine, the Aptiv Generation of products was selected by ECD editors as the overall winner.

MIPS' Aptiv Generation of microprocessor cores, including the ultra high-performance proAptiv™ family, multi-threaded interAptiv™ family, and highly-efficient microAptiv™ family, offer three distinct performance levels to enable innovative development across a broad range of home entertainment, networking, mobile and embedded applications.

According to Warren Webb, editorial director, Embedded Computing Design, "From the many nominees, we had to pick one outstanding product which we felt represented something our readers could use. We were looking for innovative products that will have a positive impact on the embedded design community through benefits such as cost savings, performance improvements, or faster time to market. We chose Aptiv microprocessors because they are something innovative, something new and something we thought would be important to the embedded computing design community."

"We are very pleased that our new Aptiv microprocessors have been named 'Top Innovative Product of 2012' by ECD," said Gideon Intrater, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies. "The award is a tribute to the accomplishments of MIPS' outstanding engineering team. We are excited about the capabilities of our new Aptiv Generation of cores, and how they will enable our customers to differentiate and excel in an increasingly competitive market."

In the August issue of ECD, which is also the annual Resource Guide, the Aptiv products are featured on the cover and in the special Innovative Products section.

Embedded Computing Design (ECD) is targeted at engineers, architects, and decision makers looking at silicon, software, and strategies for embedded devices. For more information on ECD, visit www.embedded-computing.com.

About the Aptiv Generation of Microprocessors

MIPS' Aptiv Generation of microprocessor cores, including the proAptiv, interAptiv and microAptiv families, offer three distinct performance levels for home entertainment, mobile, networking and embedded applications. With leading high-end CPU performance/power efficiency, the proAptiv core is ideal for connected consumer electronics devices. It achieves the top published CoreMark/MHz score for licensable IP cores—offering elite performance in considerably smaller area than the competition. The multi-threaded interAptiv core is ideal for applications with tight power and cost constraints, delivering leading performance efficiency in its class. The highly-efficient microAptiv core achieves the highest CoreMark/MHz score among microcontroller (MCU) class cores and adds DSP acceleration and security for cost-sensitive MCU/embedded processor designs.
