Romney raps Obama on 'Big Bird'

Saturday, October 13, 2012 2:22 PM

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney told supporters in Ohio Saturday his campaign is about big issues while President Obama talks about "smaller things."

Speaking at a rally at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Romney repeated his criticism of Obama on a range of issues including jobs, healthcare and energy policy, and ridiculed the president for making a campaign issue of the GOP nominee's remark that he would "fire ['Sesame Street' character] Big Bird" by cutting federal funding for public broadcasting.

"In times like this what is he talking about? Saving Big Bird," Romney said.

"[Obama's] campaign is about smaller and smaller things," while the Republican ticket of Romney and Paul Ryan is about big things, he said.

Romney also recalled a comment Obama had made during the campaign that he has learned in office that "you can't change Washington from the inside, you can only change Washington from the outside."

"We're going to give him that chance Nov. 6," Romney said to cheers from supporters.

Romney was scheduled to attend a rally later in the day in Lebanon, Ohio.
