VICTORIA, British Columbia, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Two more cases of E. coli linked to XL Foods beef have been discovered in British Columbia, Canadian health officials say.
The British Columbia Center for Disease Control said the two new cases involve the same strain of the bacteria as an earlier one in the province, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday. There have been three reported cases in British Columbia and a total of 15 in Canada.
One of the victims is a visitor to Canada who ate beef in both Alberta, where XL Foods is located, and in British Columbia. The person was diagnosed in Canada but has since returned home and is said to be recovering.
The other victim was diagnosed by a health authority east of Vancouver.
XL Foods launched a recall of many of its beef products in September. XL Foods resumed limited production Thursday at its Brooks, Alberta, plant, under the supervision of Canadian food inspectors.
