Tuesday, October 30, 2012 1:01 PM

Chicago, known the world over, as the home of the US retail industry and the birthplace of retailing giants such as Sears and Montgomery Ward, is now home to Dynamite Data, one of the fastest-growing big data online retail players. Ensuring Chicago’s place in history as retailing moves online and becomes more of a technology and big data driven industry, downtown Chicago is fast becoming the place to be for the big data movers and shakers.

Dynamite Data, the leader in real-time retail channel intelligence, announced today, that it has expanded and moved its online retail big data network operation center to the historic Marquette Building at 140 South Dearborn and receives its internet connectivity through 350 East Cermak—Chicago’s 1.1 million square foot data center hub and the largest data center property in the world.

“Downtown Chicago has become one of the most highly coveted data center markets in the country and is home to the data centers of notable powerhouses like Google, Microsoft, the Chicago Mercantile of Trade, and leading government organizations,” said Jerry Roper, President and CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. “We are excited to welcome Dynamite Data to our city and in particular, the Marquette Building, as they have emerged as one of the U.S.’s fastest growing big data companies and what many are calling the future backbone of online retailing.”

Located in the National Historic Landmark, Marquette Building, Dynamite Data’s new big data network operation center processes approximately 100 terabytes of online retail data per day, equipping Dynamite Data with computing power four times greater than the servers that recently decoded the human genome.

Dynamite Data provides retailers and manufacturers unsurpassed data collection and manipulation that gathers, analyzes and distributes online pricing, inventory, and rating and review information straight from 450 million online buy pages at more than 3,000 online merchants worldwide, without relying on feeds.

Dynamite Data’s clients include the leading global manufacturers and retailers that achieve annual aggregate revenues of more than $100 billion.

“We chose downtown Chicago, because it is known as one of the nation’s most dynamic retail hubs and has transformed into a big data nerve center,” said CEO Diana Schulz. “This is a pivotal step for Dynamite Data and the future of big data. Our clients demand real-time, actionable and accurate big data and the need for our services is growing at an unprecedented rate. Our new network operation center affords us the power to grow and continue to scale, as we are literally plugged right into the backbone of one of the largest Internet pipes in the world.”

“The electronics industry is super-competitive, with pricing changing by the minute, and you need to have data at your fingertips in order to be able to make the right decisions,” said Dynamite Data client, Jon Abt, CEO of Abt Electronics and Appliances, which has served Chicago area customers since 1936. “Channel Monitor helps us to continue to earn customer trust and build brand loyalty. As one of Dynamite Data’s first customers, I can say they have been a truly valuable ally in ensuring that our prices are competitive, our customers are happy and that we continue to meet our business goals.”

Dynamite Data’s network operation center was previously located in a suburb of Chicago.
