Grand Prix Entertainment signed an agreement with Anschutz Entertainment Group (“AEG”) to partner with the Los Angeles-based company’s sales and marketing division to provide support services for the Grand Prix Rugby Sevens Championship. The 2013 event will take place July 12-14 at AEG facilities’ The Home Depot Center.

In partnership with USA Rugby, Grand Prix Sports presents The Grand Prix Rugby Sevens Championships, which will feature 24 World Cup-caliber international teams playing 60 games over three days for a prize of $1,000,000; the richest sevens tournament in history.

“AEG is simply the world’s leader in sports and entertainment, and The Home Depot Center is exactly the right location to create the best atmosphere and fan experience for the most successful and exciting rugby Sevens championship ever to be held in the United States. To say the least, I’m grateful that the team at AEG and The Home Depot Center share Grand Prix’s vision that the 'Father of American Football' is now about to become the 'Sport of the 21st Century,'” said William Tatham, Chairman Grand Prix Entertainment.

Tatham concluded, “Over the next few weeks we’ll be breaking news that will forever change the way Americans look at the 'Contact Sport of the World.' Not only will our Championship become far and away America’s premier rugby spectacle, and the world’s richest, it will overnight become the new prototype for how to grow global rugby sevens. Just watch.”

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with Grand Prix Sports and help drive the marketing and sales initiatives for The Grand Prix Rugby Sevens Championships at The Home Depot Center,” said Matt Rosenfeld, vice president of sales for AEG. “With the best teams in the world eager to battle in this ultra-competitive event, we are eager to connect the passion of the players on the field with their fans in the stands. We are focused on working with Grand Prix Entertainment and USA Rugby on building a successful business foundation for an event we expect to showcase in Southern California for years to come.”

AEG Sales and Marketing is the centralized sales and marketing team for STAPLES Center, L.A. LIVE, The Home Depot Center and other entities in the AEG family. AEG sells and markets over 150 sports and entertainment events a year, including sports championships and exhibitions, concerts, family shows, conventions, movies and festivals. The core sales management team sold the iRB Sevens at The Home Depot Center in 2005 and 2006.
