ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics, Inc. and LG Electronics U.S.A., Inc. received a favorable decision from the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in a patent infringement case relating to broadcast parental control blocking technology for televisions and set-top boxes.  The Federal Circuit appeals court affirmed the victory LG previously obtained from the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

LG's victory at the Federal Circuit appeals court comes after Wi-LAN Inc., a Canadian licensing company, filed an appeal on the Southern District of New York federal district court's granting of LG's motion for summary judgment of non-infringement in March 2012.  Wi-LAN had filed the lawsuit against LG in January 2010 alleging that LG's televisions and set-top boxes infringed U.S. Patent No. 5,828,402.

LG said that it is pleased with the Federal Circuit's decision affirming the prior finding of no infringement by LG.  LG further stated that it will continue to vigorously defend itself where it does not infringe valid patent rights.
