Tuesday, January 29, 2013 12:40 PM

PYMNTS.com, the premier source of news and commentary on innovation in payments, revealed B.J. Novak will host the 2013 PYMNTS.com Innovator Awards during its inaugural event: The Innovation Project™.

Harvard graduate Novak, co-producer and actor of The Office fame, was the natural choice to host the industry’s most prestigious award for innovation in payments, taking place at the world-renowned Annenberg Hall on March 21st at Harvard University. The Boston-native will emcee the PYMNTS.com Innovator Awards where 15 winners, across multiple categories, will be revealed at a dinner and awards program. This dinner will also unveil the industry’s prestigious Payments Hall of Fame and induct five individuals whose efforts a decade or more ago laid the foundation for much of the innovation we see and experience today, and recognize the one living individual who has made the greatest contribution to the payments industry with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The ceremony is the grand finale to this unique two-day convening of the industry’s most elite innovators on March 20th and 21st at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Innovation Project is designed to reshape how the industry creates, innovates, acknowledges and celebrates its innovators.

“Well, we said we wanted to throw a Golden Globes-style program for the 2013 PYMNTS awards dinner, and I guess you can say we delivered,” says Karen Webster, President of PYMNTS.com and CEO of Market Platform Dynamics. “What better way to pay homage to the accomplishments of the award recipients and who better than Dunder Mifflin's moody misfit to poke a little fun at ourselves in the process? We have a few surprises in store for that evening, too, and just can’t wait to share this experience with our delegates.”

Novak will join luminaries including Warren Buffett, Al Gore, and Steve Levitt (the author of Freakonomics) as well as leading executives and innovators in the payments business. For more information about The Innovation Project, readers are encouraged to visit the website. The site is currently accepting requests for invitations and submissions for the 2013 PYMNTS Awards can be sent through January 30, 2013.
