NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Sept. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the American Cancer Society an estimated 230,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually in the US. To raise awareness for breast cancer, Newport Hair Loss Center (NHLC) is hosting a free seminar, Breast Cancer: Prevention & Impact, at the Oasis Center in Newport Beach on October 17th from 7pm-8:30pm.
The event will feature two speakers: Dr. Andrea Stebel, an oncologist, will address risks and types of breast cancer, diagnosis and treatment options as well as "Life after breast cancer". Dr. Lavinia Chong, a plastic surgeon, will discuss the various options and details of reconstructive surgery and what to expect.
Nazy Curtis, owner and CEO of NHLC is a breast cancer survivor who lives with alopecia, an auto immune disorder that causes hair loss. She specializes in creating custom wigs and hair replacement solutions for clients worldwide from her offices in Southern California. Last year, she donated nearly $40,000 worth of wigs to people suffering from hair loss, including breast cancer survivors. "Helping others and letting them know they're not alone in their struggles has always been of the utmost importance to me. Whether donating a wig or just my time to listen, comfort, and provide support to those in the middle of a crisis, is a crucial aspect of who I am and how I run my business."
"Making a custom wig or hair system for a cancer patient or fellow alopecia sufferer gives me tremendous joy, because I know what a difference a well-made, realistic-looking hair piece can make in someone's life. I live this every day." This seminar is part of NHLC's community involvement and aims to complement other breast cancer awareness events with an educational aspect.
