Nurse killed, 4 wounded in stabbing at Longview, Texas, hospital

LONGVIEW, Texas, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A nurse was stabbed to death Tuesday and four other people were wounded in an attack at a hospital in Longview, Texas, authorities said.

A suspect in the 7 a.m. attack at Good Shepherd Medical Center, Kyron Raushaun Templeton, 22, was arrested a short time later following a scuffle with police officers on a city street and was charged with murder and four counts of aggravated assault, KLTV-TV, Longview, reported. Templeton was being held on $2.6 million bond.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer Steve Altmiller in an email identified the slain nurse as Gail Sandidge, the TV station said. The Longview News-Journal reported Sandidge's sister said she was 57 years old.

The News-Journal reported two of the four wounded victims -- hospital employee Karen Bobo and a visitor -- were treated and released, while a second visitor was in critical condition and a third was in good condition. The three visitors were identified as Harris Teel, Teresa Allison and Melissa Sims. The TV station reported Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said a male visitor was in critical condition.

Altmiller said the suspect's mother was a patient at the hospital.

KLTV-TV said members of a family who were at the hospital waiting for their 6-year-old girl to have an operation said they saw a man stab another man outside the room where they were waiting. A nurse, responding to screams, ran out and was stabbed in the chest, the family said.

The attacker ran around with a hunting knife, yelling, "You're not going to kill my mother," then ran off, the witnesses told the TV station.
