(By Balaseshan) WellPoint Inc. (NYSE:WLP), a health benefit company, said it has appointed Mike Kapp as senior vice president and president of Federal Government Solutions (FGS).
The company said Kapp would oversee the Federal Employee Program (FEP) and National Government Services (NGS) businesses.
Kapp replaces Sandy Miller, who recently announced her retirement after 27 years in various roles at WellPoint. Kapp will work closely with Miller over the next three weeks to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Kapp has more than 20 years of strategic leadership experience negotiating and managing government contracts and public/private partnerships. He joined WellPoint in 2010 as chief financial and strategy officer for its NGS business.
Previously, Kapp was executive vice president and chief financial officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield TriServ Alliance, where he managed a joint venture of seven Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans to address the U.S. government health care services market.
WellPoint is a health benefit company in terms of medical membership in the United States, serving 34.3 million medical members through its affiliated health plans and a total of 65.3 million individuals through all subsidiaries as of December 31, 2011. The company operates in three segments: Commercial, Consumer, and Other.
WLP is trading up 0.09% at $69.13 on Monday. The stock has been trading between $56.61 and $80.90 for the past 52 weeks.
