US Airways (LCC) December Traffic Rise 1.8%

(By Balaseshan) US Airways Group Inc. (NYSE: LCC) reported increase in traffic, capacity and load factor for the month of December, helped by improved performance at the mainline segment.

"I would like to thank and congratulate our team of 32,000 employees for doing an outstanding job of taking care of our customers in 2012 while setting numerous operating records, including on-time departures and arrivals, completion factor, and baggage handling. We look forward to continuing this trend into the New Year and beyond," said US Airways' President Scott Kirby.

Consolidated revenue passenger miles, or traffic, rose 1.8% to 5.18 billion, while capacity measured in terms of available seat miles marginally increased 0.2% to 6.26 billion. Load factor gained 1.3 percentage points to 82.7%. Consolidated enplanements grew 1.7%.

US Airways' preliminary on-time performance as reported to the U.S. Department of Transportation was 82.8% for the month of December with a completion factor of 99.3%.

Mainline traffic grew 1.3% to 4.97 billion with a 2.3 percent growth in domestic traffic. Mainline capacity marginally declined 0.2% to 5.98 billion. Domestic capacity rose 0.6%, while Atlantic capacity fell 7.6%.

Mainline passenger load factor increased 1.2 percentage points to 83.1%. Domestic load factor grew 1.4 points. Mainline enplanements rose 0.7% to 4.40 million.

For US Airways Express including Piedmont Airlines and PSA Airlines, traffic grew 15.4% and capacity increased 9.2% while load factor rose 4.0 percentage points.

The company, along with US Airways Shuttle and US Airways Express, operates more than 3,000 flights per day, serving more than 195 communities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Central and South America.

LCC is trading up 1.76% at $13.90 on Friday. The stock has been trading between $5.07 and $14.51 for the past 52 weeks.
