Biostar Raises $3.6 Million

Biostar Pharmaceuticals has completed a private placement that raised $3.6 million in new capital. Biostar will use the proceeds to complete its new raw materials processing facility. By taking its raw material production in house, Biostar will lower costs and ensure its product quality. Biostar plans to sell excess raw materials to other pharmaceutical companies in the Shaanxi province.[More...]

As a rule, I try not to read too terribly much into a "Fed Day" as there is usually a big batch of volatility that may or may not mean much of anything come the dawn of the next day. Maybe, it's just me. Or maybe there are others that find themselves inclined to simply stand aside and watch the nuttiness from the sidelines on "Fed Days." But in any event, the volatility after a Fed announcement, while fun to watch, may not be telling as to what to expect in the future.[More...]

ADP Sees 203,000 Jobs Lost

This morning, Automatic Data Processing (ADP), the biggest payroll processing firm, estimated that the economy lost 203,000 private sector jobs in October. That was more than the consensus estimate of 190,000 jobs lost. However, the September job loss numbers were revised to a loss of just 227,000 from the original read of 254,000. Thus the losses are coming from a higher base level, and if the revisions are included, this report was in line with consensus or perhaps a bit better.[More...]

Inspire reports $8.5 million 3Q loss

Nov. 6--DURHAM -- Inspire Pharmaceuticals Inc. on Thursday reported a loss of $8.5 million for the third quarter, mostly owing to an increase in expenses even as revenues for the company's lead products rose.
Operating expenses for the third quarter totaled $33.1 million, up from $29 million a year ago, primarily because of higher research and development expenses, including a $3.3 million milestone payment to Yamasa Corp. for a technology agreement to enable a two-supplier strategy for denufosol, the company's candidate for treating cystic fibrosis.
Revenue from Azasite, the company's candidate for treating pinkeye, was $9.0 million, nearly double the $4.7 million from the third quarter of 2008.
