Fortunately my portfolio management methods don’t revolve around frequent trading. One of my kids came up to me recently and said, “What did you do today, Dad?” I said, “I made one trade, and I did a bunch of research.” He then asked, “How often do you trade?” I answered, “That was my first trade in a week, and I haven’t traded much in the last two months, but that’s not normal. There is no normal for me. When the market is really volatile, I trade a lot more, selling when stocks are rising, and buying when they are selling off. When the market is relatively placid, I don’t do much.” He looked at me, kind of smiled, and moved on. Information overload from Dad. Most people and investment managers trade too often. Recently, I posted the Top 10 and Bottom 10 Stocks in the S&P 500 average by daily Average True Range. Now, let’s look at the top and bottom stocks by factor of percentage of the ATR to the recent close - stocks with a higher percentage will be more volatile than those with lower percentages, and absolute ATR dollar value says little in terms of ranking stocks. Let’s get more precise.Steven Geringer of the Trade Performance website advised me to look into a factor of percentages when comparing ATR values, as this would give a more accurate reading of volatility than the pure ATR value itself - he’s right. Back from Key West thirty six hours late, thanks to Delta. I had the opportunity to read lots of financial clutter in paradise - a tedious task the Keys made pleasant. Between the Mohitos,fresh fish and other assorted culinary delights, I navigated a conclusion that earning a nice yield (assuming a stable dollar, more reasonable fuel cost expectations and other commodity cost stabilization) with ETFs and stocks that are less thrilling than the double shorts and other eclectic plays should be just fine for Mr. and Ms. Investor. Ameren trims 150 jobs through layoffs, buyouts

Nov. 7--Ameren Corp. said Friday that it laid off more than 50 non-union employees this week as part of the company's move to eliminate about 300 jobs by the end of the year.
That total includes approximately 100 employees who accepted buyouts Ameren offered in September to 350 full-time managers and non-union employees who will turn 58 by Dec. 31.
The job losses announced Friday are in addition to summer layoffs totaling about 145 positions -- including approximately 50 unionized jobs -- in Ameren's merchant generation segment.
