Forget Yesterday, It's All About Jobs

Good morning. Stocks tanked in the last half-hour on Thursday and while the major news outlets attributed the decline to either profit taking or some trepidation in front of this morning's big Jobs report, we'd like to offer a little more substantial reason for the 85 point dive on an otherwise subdued day of trading.[More...]

Choppy Session Ends Positive

The indices ended to the plus side, but it was very choppy. The day started out with a down move and then an immediate reversal. When the Nasdaq 100 made new lows and the S&P 500 didn’t, that caused a positive divergence. They then snapped back very sharply on positive economic news, with the NDX jumping from1657 to 1689, or 32 points in about 35-40 minutes. The SPX rallied from 1037 to 1052.[More...]

Sharp Rally Reclaims Much Of Recent Decline

The market had a very strong snapback rally on Thursday from a deeply oversold condition. The day started with a gap up. They pulled back, tested the intraday moving averages successfully and then exploded to the upside. At that point they settled into a shallower angle of ascent, but nevertheless stair-stepped their way higher all day. They did pull back in the last hour, but in the last 10 minutes snapped back once again to close not far off the session highs.[More...]

Profit From The Generation Y-New Media Connection

Newspapers and nightly television news programs are as good as dead. A study performed by Drs. Reynol Junco and Jeanna Mastrodicasa found that Generation Y (born between1981-1992) gets 34% of its news from the Internet, compared with only 11% from newspapers. Web sites like Digg and The Drudge Report are sending more people than ever to Internet news sources - everything from small independent news organizations, blogs and video feeds to traditional media outlets like The New York Times and CBS. News is only a fraction of the story, though. According to CBSSports.com, 7.52 million visitors watched some of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament online this year. That turned out to be 8.6 million hours of video and audio. These numbers represent a 58% growth in visitors and 75% increase in total hours watched/listened to. No other media source can claim that kind of growth. Online media is booming,[More...]

As part of its growing focus on the financial sector, content delivery network operator Akamai has signed up a customer in the online foreign exchange trading market and started to target the market for refinancing loans and mortgages.

The rationale is that, in the current economic climate, even traditional financial services institutions will increase their reliance on the internet as a channel.

Akamai Technologies only began targeting the financial sector as a specific vertical at the beginning of last year, when it put together a dedicated financial services institution (FSI) practice.
