Oct. 22--Boeing Co. on Wednesday delivered quarterly financial results that were worse than Wall Street expected and gave few assurances its prospects would improve anytime soon.

Two troubled airplane programs, the 787 and 747-8, were largely to blame for Boeing's net loss of $1.56 billion, or $2.23 per share, one of the worst quarterly performances in the Chicago airplane-maker's history.

Analysts predicted a $2.22-per-share shortfall after Boeing earlier said it would report a record $3.5 billion in charges related to design problems and rising costs with the two jets, which are running years behind schedule.
