We've poked our head a bit higher than the highs of yesterday (S&P 1117) on the opening flood of buy orders; a small positive there. The last 2 sessions have been marked by new highs as the market poked its head out of the box, and then reversals back down - so it would seem unlikely for that to happen 3 days in a row.[More...]

EIA Reports Surprise Gas Build - Analyst Blog

In its weekly release yesterday, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a surprise 2 billion cubic feet (Bcf) addition to natural gas stockpiles for the week ended November 27, far off analyst expectations that hoped for inventories to remain flat, or possibly even show a drawdown.

This takes the current storage level to a new record high of 3.84 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), which is up 14.0% from last year's level and 14.5% above the five-year range (as clear from the nearby chart from the EIA). Current stocks are 470 Bcf above last year’s level and 487 Bcf above the five-year average. The inventory addition was in sharp contrast to the five-year-average net withdrawal of 43 Bcf and last year's drawdown of 64 Bcf.??

A Well Balanced Wealth Management Investment Strategy

Inflation and deflation are the two most important factors for a well designed wealth management investment strategy. Inflation destroys the long term purchasing power while deflation reduces the effectiveness of the capitalism's basic profit machine. A well designed long term strategy thus needs to have a well balanced hedge in both economic cycles. Harry Browne's permanent portfolio is designed over various major asset classes to tackle this problem. A more actively managed strategy is Doug Roberts' Follow the Fed Strategy.[More...]

Observers wary of 'truce' between Intel, AMD

SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Can Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, Silicon Valley's version of the long-squabbling Hatfields and McCoys, really get along?

The companies' legal brawling dates to 1987, when Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD and Intel of Santa Clara, Calif., locked horns over AMD's right to use certain designs for making microprocessors, the brains of personal computers and other devices.

U.S., Asian and European authorities also have launched investigations into Intel's practices, resulting in the European Commission's recent $1.45 billion fine of Intel, which the company has appealed.

Nov. 17--AMESBURY -- Homeowners who have enjoyed steady rates on their water and sewer bills for the past two years will likely be seeing a sizeable rise in their quarterly invoices as the town looks to make up revenue shortages and begins paying for a new water treatment plant.

The town is holding a public hearing on Dec. 3 to propose an increase of 70 cents per 100 cubic feet of water usage, and a 55-cent hike in the sewer rate effective Jan. 1, to cover what Mayor Thatcher Kezer said is related to less usage, resulting in less revenue.

"We've not raised rates in two years.
