Positive News Out of RF Semi Names: TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) and Skyworks Solutions (SWKS)

No major fireworks out of Skyworks Solutions (SWKS) after hours so the stock is mildly up premarket. When I bought Skyworks I mentioned the "group of 4" (May 12, 2009: Beginning Skyworks Solutions (SWKS) I've never owned Skyworks Solutions before but in the late 90s I traded all 3 of its major competitiors - ANAD, TQNT, RFMD. If you ever want a laugh just pull up a 10 year chart on any of those 3 to see how "everyone was a genius" back around 1999. Semiconductor Industry - Industry Outlook

The metrics determining the 2009 outlook for the Semiconductor industry as a whole has been as volatile as ever. Pricing (ASP Erosion) and inventory buildup in the latter half of 2008 has plagued the industry and companies, particularly in the Specialized (SP) and Integrated Circuits (IC) areas, are still having a difficult time managing inventory to bring utilization rates to an optimal level for margin maintenance and growth. The peak season for NAND flash in 2008 only lasted till the month of October, and prices for 16Gb and 32Gb chips fell again in November. Price adjustments during July and August of 2008 helped demand recover in October, but the poor showing of consumer electronics sales during the holiday season, aggravated by the global financial crisis, is expected to shrink demand for NAND flash again in 2009. Anadigics Target Adjusted Down

Anadigics, Inc. (ANAD) recently downgraded its guidance and now expects revenue around $62-$65 million, down from the previous estimate of $75-$81 million. Pro-forma EPS should now be between -$0.01 and $0.01. As a result, ANAD will also defer additional investments in its China fab. We are appalled by the significant outlook revision given that the company held their conference call only a few weeks ago. Earlier, the company reported second-quarter results, which topped our estimates, driven by stronger than anticipated growth in broadband. Revenue of $80.5 million, up 8% quarter-over-quarter and 49% year-over-year, exceeded our estimate of $78 million. Pro-forma EPS of $0.18 beat our estimate by two cents. Hartford Financial Services' (HIG) 2Q08 core earnings of $2.22 per share were $0.13 per share ahead of consensus. However, net income for the quarter was down 13.4% year-over-year due to realized capital losses. Assets under management grew 2.6% year-over-year. Though HIG is expected to benefit from its leading position in several of its markets and its plans to expand the retirement income products range to take advantage of growing needs in the U.S. as well as in Japan, higher losses in the investment portfolio and increased competition should limit the upside potential. We are maintaining our Hold recommendation on the shares. After reviewing 2Q08 results and the guidance by management, we are lowering our FY08 and FY09 core earnings estimates to $9.20 per share and $10.10 per share, respectively.
