This time it's on the east side of the Atlantic, where the UK authorities have organized another capital injection/loan guarantee program for (some of) Britain's troubled banks. Superior man accused of trespassing on own land also faces disorderly conduct charge

Dec. 5--Jeremy Engelking, 27, of Superior was expecting to be charged Friday with trespassing on a construction site in connection with a dispute over a pipeline being installed across his property.
But he was surprised to learn he also would face a disorderly conduct charge.
Engelking was arrested Wednesday after he confronted a crew on his property installing the line for Enbridge Energy Partners.

BAE's Valanx hits milestone

Nov. 30--BAE Systems said its joint venture to build a next-generation, MRAP-style military vehicle hit a milestone recently when it cleared the design and assessment phase and is headed to integration and assembly.
The government's Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) selection process is in a 27-month technology development phase, as the companies bidding on the work put their designs together.
The JLTV program has been dubbed by the industry and military as the replacement system for the Humvee, the military's workhorse for years.

Wind farm up and running

Nov. 19--REELS CORNERS -- Thirty-five turbines are spinning at Somerset County's newest wind farm.
Chicago-based E.ON Climate & Renewables North America on Wednesday announced that its Stony Creek wind farm is complete.
The site spans more than 4,300 acres in three townships, and it is the company's first project in this state.

Oshkosh Corp. ends fiscal 2009 $1.1 billion in hole

Nov. 4--OSHKOSH-- Despite a robust fourth quarter flush with military orders, Oshkosh Corp. ended fiscal 2009 incurring a $1.1 billion loss.
"Strong results in our defense segment weren't enough to offset severe weakness we experienced in our access equipment and to a lesser extent commercial segment," Robert Bohn, chairman and chief executive officer, said in a conference call Tuesday after release of its earnings report.
The dismal full-year results were colored strongly by the nearly $1.2 billion non-cash asset impairment charge recorded earlier this year.

Funding Boost Will Upgrade Utah Trails, Rivers, Visitor Centers: Congress Gives Interior Department, Forest Service 17% Funding Increase.

Oct. 31--Utah will reap millions from a $4.6 billion funding increase for the Interior Department and U.S. Forest Service that will help build restrooms near ATV trails, improve a blue-ribbon fishery, help students learn about renewable energy and restore a historic mansion in Salt Lake City.
The total appropriation that Congress approved this week reaches more than $34 billion, which includes funding for fighting wildfires without having to "borrow" from popular Forest Service programs.
The Wilderness Society, a national conservation group, was quick to praise the higher funding, calling it "a much-needed boost" for climate-change research, the National Wildlife Refuge System, public-land preservation and clean water.

Purchase of ATV Trailhead Property Delayed in Dover-Foxcroft

Oct. 8--DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine -- An attorney for the Piscataquis County commissioners is attempting to iron out a wrinkle in the county's planned purchase of Depot Street property in Moosehead Junction Township for a trailhead.
The property is adjacent to the ATV and snowmobile Interconnecting Trail System that connects residents and tourists to destinations throughout Maine and into Quebec.
While doing a title search for the county in preparation for the purchase, lawyer David Gray of Dover-Foxcroft found there are deed restrictions on the property because it is located in the Moosehead Industrial Park.

Wildfire Danger Creeping Up Across Northland

Sep. 19--September's warm, sunny skies have brought back two words that Northlanders haven't seen in a while: fire danger.
The Minnesota Interagency Fire Center on Friday issued a reminder that many areas of the state are bone dry.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will have full wildfire crews on duty in some areas this weekend.

Council Addresses ATV Road Access

Sep. 12--DEXTER, Maine -- A proposed fence amendment, a request for all-terrain vehicle use of a couple of roadways and a swimming hole issue were addressed Thursday by the Dexter Town Council.
The planning board had recommended that the council amend the land use ordinance to address fences after an issue surfaced last year on Shore Road.
"I just find this ridiculous," Councilor Judy Craig said Thursday.

City, State Work on Linden Drainage: FEMA Decision Eminent

Sep. 2--New Albany is aiding the state in its efforts to eliminate drainage problems in the Linden Meadows subdivision.
The state body loaned money to the New Albany Community Housing Development Organization and is a lien holder on loans for the project.
John Rosenbarger, director of public facilities projects for the city, said standing water in the basements of some of the houses was attributed to lack of grading, a relatively inexpensive choir required for most developments.

Acorn Enters Agreement to Sell 33% Equity Interests of its CPS Stock Tracking Software Business

In accordance with the terms of a share purchase agreement approved by Acorn's board of directors, Acorn will receive approximately $7.5 million in dividends and $15.5 million for sale of 33% equity interests of Yimeng, which is valued, post-dividend, at approximately $47.0 million. The Company will continue to hold 18% equity interests of Yimeng after the sale as part of Acorn's long- term investments. The CPS stock tracking software provides stock trading analysis to retail investors in China.
