CardioNet Calls Off Biotel Deal: Eagan Company's Shares Lose 53%

Jul. 15--Shares of Eagan-based Biotel dropped more than 50 percent Tuesday on word that Pennsylvania-based CardioNet is terminating a merger agreement with the local company.
"CardioNet has advised Biotel that it is terminating the merger agreement with Biotel due to a failure of Biotel to comply with the terms of the agreement," Biotel said in a statement Tuesday.
"Biotel believes it has complied with all terms of the agreement and that CardioNet's claim is without merit and inconsistent with CardioNet's representations to Biotel."

Stocks Rally, Led By Financials

U.S. stocks closed broadly higher Monday, led by gains in financials after influential analyst Meredith Whitney upgraded her rating on Goldman Sachs Group (GS) to buy from neutral ahead of its second-quarter earnings report due on Tuesday.
Other major U.S. banks like Citigroup (C), Bank of America (BAC), and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) are slated to post results this week.
On this week's economic front, June reports on the producer price index, retail sales, industrial production, and housing starts will shed more light on how the economy is faring.

Apr. 13--GE INKS $200M DEAL WITH EMAL: GE Energy today signed a $200m multi-year agreement with Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) as it nears completion of what will become the world's largest single-site aluminum smelter complex.
The CSA will support EMAL's recent investment in GE gas turbines and the long-term productivity and efficiency of the turbines.
Under the CSA, GE Energy will supply a wide range of services for the gas turbines, which are equipped with advanced emission control technologies to help EMAL reduce its carbon footprint and meet the regulatory requirements set by the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency.

Biotel: Sale to Allow Growth: CardioNet Sees Broader Market

Apr. 3--Biotel, a medical technology company in Eagan, has been acquired in a $14 million deal that will allow it to grow at a faster pace.
Biotel manufactures external heart monitors that search patients for heart arrhythmias.
Its acquirer -- Pennsylvania-based CardioNet -- said the deal allows it to expand its existing cardiac arrhythmia monitoring business and to widen its portfolio to products such as Biotel's newly FDA-approved "next generation" wireless monitor.
