EIA Reports Surprise Gas Build - Analyst Blog

In its weekly release yesterday, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a surprise 2 billion cubic feet (Bcf) addition to natural gas stockpiles for the week ended November 27, far off analyst expectations that hoped for inventories to remain flat, or possibly even show a drawdown. This takes the current storage level to a new record high of 3.84 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), which is up 14.0% from last year's level and 14.5% above the five-year range (as clear from the nearby chart from the EIA). Current stocks are 470 Bcf above last year’s level and 487 Bcf above the five-year average. The Federal Reserve's balance sheet declined by $15 billion to $2,183 billion from the prior week, after the Fed presumably offloaded $2.7 billion in MBS: this is the first time since QE started that MBS holdings have declined. Chesapeake earns two honors from industry group

Dec. 5--Chesapeake Energy Corp. took home two awards at this week's 2009 Platts Global Energy Awards ceremony in New York.
The Oklahoma City-based natural gas producer was honored as the Energy Producer of the Year for its expertise in shale gas plays, its high success rate in exploration activities and its consistent production growth.
"Chesapeake has a track record of very strong financial and operating results with consistent production growth for 19 consecutive years, increasing production by 18 percent in 2008," the judges wrote.
