Virtual Funds: Energy Fund's Ranking/Performance in Q3 '08 And Overall

This has been a tough year and a very tough 3rd quarter for all sectors. Energy was affected as much if not worse than most of the other sectors. Here I will detail the performance of the virtual mutual fund I've set up for the Energy sector on the Marketocracy web site. Orange line in the chart below shows how my Energy Fund has performed relative to the m100 (a collective Marketocracy fund that uses picks from the top 100 members), S&P 500, Dow Jones Index, and Nasdaq. I'm not sure what is going on here but Penn Virginia Holdings (PVG) is up 4 dollars..no news. Buckeye Parnters (BGH) is up 2 and change. Elsewhere the MLP index is up 2/3rds of a point and over 340.The group is split 50-50 with losers and winners. Plains All American, Martin Midstream, Nustar Holdings are up fractionally. The weight of falling ten year rates and rising energy is offsetting the sell off in stocks. The dow is down over 110 pts but the MLP index which was down 1 earlier has been sitting near unchanged for the last hour and a half. EV Partners is up 1.59 as the biggest winner on its asset purchase. Duke Midstream(DPM), Buckeye Holdings(BGH), and Martin Midstream (MMLP) all up a point or more. BGH Projects 10% Revenue Growth: Volume Growth to Be Focus Amid Hard Times

Mar. 10--Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BGH), the country's largest private hospital operator, expects the health-care industry to remain on an upward trend in the face of a poor economy.
BGH president Wallop Adhikomprapa said revenue growth of 8-10 percent was expected this year as it hopes to win more market share.
He said BGH's goal was supported by statistics that local health-care expenditure is relatively low compared to the region, while the percentage of Thais above age 60 is forecast to expand in line with population growth.

Samitivej to Freeze B1bn Outlay Over Three Years

Jan. 13--Samitivej Plc (SVH), one of the flagship hospital chains under Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BGH), has put on hold its one-billion-baht planned investment for 2009 to 2011 as it seeks to keep cash in face of economic hardships.
Last year, SVH's board considered constructing a new building at its new branch in Si Racha and renovating its Samitivej Srinakarin, where the structure is over 16 years old.
Raymond Chong, managing director and chief executive of SVH, said the decision came after the health-care market had started to feel the pinch from the global economic slump and internal politics continued to erode spending sentiment.

HOUSTON, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Buckeye Partners, L.P. (NYSE: BPL) ("Buckeye") announced today that it has priced a $275 million SEC Registered senior unsecured notes offering.
Buckeye intends to use the net proceeds from the offering to reduce borrowings under its revolving credit facility and for general partnership purposes.
Barclays Capital Inc., SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Inc., BNP Paribas Securities Corp. and Wells Fargo Securities, LLC acted as joint book-running managers for the offering.

Buckeye Partners, L.P. today reported its financial results for the second quarter of 2009. Net income attributable to Buckeye's unitholders before special charges for the second quarter of 2009 was $52.1 million, or $0.78 per LP unit, compared with net income attributable to Buckeye's unitholders of $40.9 million, or $0.63 per LP unit, reported for the second quarter of 2008. Buckeye's Adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter of 2009 was $84.2 million compared to $73.3 million in the second quarter of the prior year. As previously announced, Buckeye recorded special charges during the second quarter to recognize an asset impairment and for expenses related to an organizational restructuring. The special charges associated with these actions were $72.5 million and $28.1 million, respectively. After the special charges, Buckeye reported a net loss of $48.4 million, or $1.17 per LP unit, for the second quarter of 2009.[More...]

BREINIGSVILLE, Pa., July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Buckeye Partners, L.P. ("Buckeye") today announced that it has completed a comprehensive "best practices" review of its business.
As a result of this review, Buckeye is implementing organizational changes that are expected to result in annualized savings of $18-22 million, which should be fully realized beginning in 2010.
These organizational changes will result in a workforce reduction of approximately 260 employees, or nearly 25 percent of Buckeye's workforce.

BREINIGSVILLE, Pa., April 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Buckeye Partners, L.P. ("Buckeye") today reported its financial results for the first quarter of 2009.
Net income attributable to Buckeye's unitholders for the first quarter of 2009 was $53.8 million, or $0.87 per LP unit, compared with net income attributable to Buckeye's unitholders of $42.8 million, or $0.72 per LP unit, for the first quarter of 2008.
Net income attributable to Buckeye's unitholders per LP unit in the first quarter of 2009 includes an increase in the average number of LP units outstanding during the first quarter of 2009 to 48.4 million from an average of 45.9 million LP units outstanding in the first quarter of 2008.
