Healthcare Industry Outlook

Investor sentiment in healthcare continues to be driven by both Washington, DC and the state of the broader economy. In late February, President Obama released his administration's first budget proposal, which included the provision of a $630B reserve fund for healthcare reform over the next 10 years, financed in part by increases in taxes and changes to government program payments for physicians, hospitals and insurers (Medicare Advantage in particular). Details of the measure continue to evolve as discussions continue at the congressional level. Earlier in February, the $787B economic stimulus package was passed in the Senate and House. The $150B in planned healthcare spending will include $25B towards the expansion of COBRA, $20B for health technology, and $85B for Medicaid assistance to states. BioScrip : Too Little, Too Late, And Too Much

I had received some emails and phone calls from BioScrip ("BIOS" or the "Company") investors over the past few weeks asking what my investment status with the Company was and I wanted to provide a broader update. I actually sold my position in BIOS prior to Q3 and in fact have shorted BIOS off and on, generally trading the stock with a focus on what I think is growing downside for the Company. When I first started writing about BioScrip Inc. ("BIOS" or the "Company") I received some encouragement from a variety of shareholders including both individual and institutional investors who had been disappointed in management's continued incompetence. I also attracted the attention of private specialty pharmacy operators and former employees which further supported the notion that the Company's management team and Board are unfit to run BIOS. Yes, some old guy opened his mouth yesterday and the business world shook. I don’t care about the Fed, nor the overall markets, I search for individual pump and dumps. I am glad the markets rebounded, but only because that gets our favorite spammers/pumpers in a better mood to do the only thing they’re good at…and that’s when PennyStocking is so awesome…so if this rally continues, expect some solid plays to open up…as it is, I don’t see anything worth anyone’s time, other than if you’re a scalper and if you are, I pity you, it’s no way to live.PGTI is now up 50% in 4 days, earnings play, inverse head and shoulders, looks great, but still a ton of bitter shareholders, I’d love for it to keep going, if it can break $6…convincingly, no real resistance til the high $7s, which would be a great entry point to try to go for a $1-2 reversal…oh, this short seller is probly just[More...]
