Assuming that bankruptcies are equally distributed throughout the year, this puts us on pace for 312 bankruptcies. That is tracking well shy of my prediction. In fact, bankruptcies were down significantly from Q1 to Q2, as there were 90 bankruptcies in the first quarter but only 66 in the second. That stylized fact begs the question: Is that a “green shoot”[More...]

That said, if it goes up and squeezes some shorts enough, it’s a potential play.LSCG is a two-day spiker, chart is decent for a reversal but there is a shareholder meeting this Thursday so it’s not ideal (news could be announced).CYPB has the right longterm downtrending chart, spike off the bottom, but a history of taking weeks to reverse after[More...]

Capital Corp of the West , of Merced, California, announced that it received a letter from the Nasdaq Stock Market indicating that the Company no longer complies with the minimum requirements for continued listing on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under Marketplace Rules 4300, 4450 and IM-4300. In light of closing of the Company's wholly-owned subsidiary County Bank and the appointment of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as receiver for the Bank, Nasdaq expressed concerns about the Company's viability and ability to sustain compliance with requirements for continued listing on Nasdaq as well as the residual equity interest of the Company's common stockholders. As a result, Nasdaq notified the Company that the Company's securities will be delisted from Nasdaq.[More...]

Capital Corp of the West Reports Preliminary Results of Subsidiary Bank Operations

Capital Corp of the West (the “Company”) today determined, on a preliminary basis, that it would be required to make a provision for loan losses of approximately $28.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2008, compared with a provision of $11.5 million for the third quarter of 2008. The fourth quarter provision is attributable to continued declines in the appraised values of real property collateral securing loans in the Company’s portfolio, a deteriorating economic environment, downgrades in internal risk ratings, an increase in nonperforming loans and portfolio reviews by third parties including state and federal regulators. Absent further adjustment, the estimated cumulative provision for loan losses for the year ended December 31, 2008, will be approximately $55.4 million.[More...]
