After today's broad-based decline, I get the sense we are at or near an intermediate top. At the same time, I do not expect the bulls to simply roll over here. Looking at some index charts, we can see that while today's action was undeniably bearish, price has support nearby. Today can be called nothing other than nasty as most of the indexes made round trips back to either six-year or eleven-year lows, following a nasty selloff that came on very heavy volume. Volume picked up on every exchange as finally some signs of panic selling hit the market. This selling took the markets off around 5% to 6% and a lot of stocks were just walloped. The Recent Rally Attempt Is Dead As Three Of Four Major Stock Market Indexes Make New 52-Week Lows

It was a brutal day if you were a falling knife catcher as the market took those impatient bulls who believed the lows were in out and beat them silly with a 6.5% loss on the Nasdaq, a 6.6% loss on the NYSE, and a 6.1% loss on the SP 500. The losses were made even more damaging by the fact that they hit new lows from the recent rally attempt and volume picked up giving the market a very heavy distribution day. This distribution day adds to the pressure the market is facing as each and every day passes. The market in terms of the Nasdaq and Nasdaq 100 are now down over 51% from the October 2007 highs. These losses have been extremely damaging to the psychology of many market players and has done some major damage to individuals portfolios. Another Day, Another Selloff; Higher Volume On The Selloff Indicates Fear Is Rising

It was yet another day of huge losses for the stock market as most indexes are now down over 45% for the year. This kind of market action is enough to make a lot of people sick. But that is the last thing you want to do here, especially with the selloff starting to slightly hit panic levels. Now, I am not saying that we are near a bottom what-so-ever. But what I am saying is that we are getting a little crazy with the selling and that should lead to a rally in the near term. However, before that rally occurs, I expect that we will more than likely set new lows on all the indexes. One of the reasons I believe that is possible is because after today’s session I saw that ZERO stocks on the NYSE or Nasdaq hit new 52-week highs, while over 415 stocks on each index hit new 52-week lows. I'm surprised by the indiscriminate selling in commodities and commodity-related stocks. Were there bubbles? Yes, but demand remains high and product shortages continue to exist. For example, erratic deliveries of steel have caused an acquaintance of mine to put his employees on flexible work schedules. According to him, steel mills are not sticking to regular production schedules of the type of metal used for the packaging products that his company manufactures. Not surprisingly, his customers are unhappy. But, because they lack a cost-effective alternative, they have no choice but to accept the higher prices and irregular production schedules. July's Durable Goods Report Translated into an Up Day.

Stocks advanced Wednesday on a durable goods report that surprised Wall Street. The Commerce Department announced that July?s durable goods rose 1.3%, while analysts were expecting no increase from June, which also showed a move up of 1.3%. Growth in durable goods, which include big ticket items like cars, appliances and machinery, bodes well for the economy as it is a good indicator of stronger consumer confidence. The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 89.64 points, or 0.79%, on Wednesday. The blue chip index closed at 11,502.51. The Standard & Poor's 500 index climbed 10.15 points, or 0.80%, ending the session at 1,281.66. The Nasdaq picked up 20.49 points, or 0.87%, closing at 2,382.46. ADB in Talks for Financing New Visayas Power Plants

THE Asian Development Bank (ADB) is in talks with foreign investors for possible financing of new power plants in the Philippines' central provinces.
As you know Visayas has a separate power supply-demand balance," Neeraj Jain, ADB country director, told The Manila Times.
The ADB official, however, refused to provide additional details, citing its policy of "confidentiality" when it comes to discussions with clients.
