4 Earnings Season Option Strategies For Monday November 9

In my latest three blog posts, I listed some stocks which I would be willing to go long by selling the puts right before the stock reported earnings. Keep in mind these are companies which I believed would have a positive reaction to the earnings, however if the stock moved sideways on the number this strategy would still likely return a gain the following day.[More...]

Good morning. With chants of "Dow 10K… Dow 10K" once again rising from the streets at the corner of Broad and Wall yesterday, it is easy to believe that the bulls are back on track and that we'll soon be looking at new highs for the stock market. And when reviewing the data inputs to yesterday's 204 point romp, it is also easy to don the Dow10K hat once again and join in on the celebration.[More...]

As a rule, I try not to read too terribly much into a "Fed Day" as there is usually a big batch of volatility that may or may not mean much of anything come the dawn of the next day. Maybe, it's just me. Or maybe there are others that find themselves inclined to simply stand aside and watch the nuttiness from the sidelines on "Fed Days." But in any event, the volatility after a Fed announcement, while fun to watch, may not be telling as to what to expect in the future.[More...]

Nov. 6--PLAINS TWP. -- As negative issues arise related to natural-gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale, at least one company is being careful to keep residents informed about the industry's benefits and distance itself from concerns.

Speaking on Thursday at the "Executive Management Breakfast Series" put on by Penn State Wilkes-Barre, a spokesman for Chesapeake Energy detailed the environmental protections his company uses when drilling and outlined the positive economic effect the industry has had in Pennsylvania.

Chesapeake has paid out $700 million to landowners since 2008, along with $100 million to contractors in the state and $500,000 to community projects in 2009, according to Brian Grove, the director of corporate development for the company's eastern division.
