Traders must be hungry today, because they’re eating up Chipotle Mex Grill (NYSE: CMG) shares today. While the markets have remained mixed or just flat out down the entirety of the day. But not the stock for that purveyor of cilantro-lime rice, carnitas, black beans and all-around flavorful goodness. I know after reading their menu just now, my mouth is watering at the thought of a customized burrito, or maybe one of their delicious quesadillas. McDonald’s Corporation (MCD), a leading fast food centre, recently reported dismal second quarter 2009 profit. Net Profit declined 8.1% year over year to $1,093.7 million, despite increase in traffic counts and rise in operating income. The foreign currency fluctuation adversely impacted the top and bottom lines.? On a reported basis, EPS declined 5.8% to $0.98 from $1.04 reported in the prior year quarter. The strong U.S. dollar continues to moderate results, trimming reported earnings by $0.09 per share. Management hinted that currency fluctuations might lower its full-year earnings by $0.21. Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG)">CMG), known for premium-priced, fast-food Mexican entrees, reported better than expected second quarter results. EPS for the reported quarter surged 48.6% year over year to $1.10, surpassing street estimate of $0.88. Menu price increases, new restaurant openings and selective cost cutting measures drove the growth in EPS.? Revenue for the reported quarter ascended 14.1% to $388.8 million driven by new restaurant openings and an increase of 1.7% in same-store sales. The increase in comparable sales was driven by 6.5% menu price increase, which in turn, helped offset 3.5% decline in traffic counts. The average check increased a little over 5%. Earnings per share, excluding special charges, grew 10% year over year to $0.50, surpassing our estimate of $0.45 and street estimate of $0.43.? On a?reported basis, EPS jumped 40% to $0.63.? Let’s face it, people need to eat, and sometimes, yea, we like to treat ourselves and eat something a little above and beyond the normal fare. Even in recessionary times, consumers can only hold off for so long before they eventually give in to at least SOME of life’s temptations and finer things. We can see the evidence that speaks to this need at least partially in the restaurant sector as we speak. Results have been trickling in over the last few months by many different operators and surprisingly, most of the results have not been as bad as feared, or forecast. As a result, and also because of the timing of the bounce of the recent market bottom, restaurant stocks have soared to the tune of anywhere from 50-200% depending on the company. Popular local coffee purveyor Peet's set to open at Northgate

Nov. 7--Emeryville-based Peet's Coffee & Tea is opening up shop at the newly redone Northgate mall.
"We're just excited that another local company has chosen to come to Northgate," said Ryan Williams, a spokesman for mall owner, Santa Monica-based Macerich Co.

Chipotle adding solar panels to some restaurants

DENVER - Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. plans to add solar panels on about 75 of its restaurants over the next year.
The Denver-based fast-casual chain said Tuesday that it is partnering with Houston-based Standard Renewable Energy to install enough panels to produce 500 kilowatt hours of electricity.
Installations are already under way in Denver and in Texas, in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio.

Northgate Mall in San Rafael Unveils 12 New Retailers

Sep. 16--The $75 million transformation of Northgate in Terra Linda will include the hip clothier Forever 21, set to occupy one of the largest non-anchor spaces at the newly redone mall, officials said Wednesday.
Kohl's is set to open Sept. 30.
The 725,000-square-foot property, now simply called Northgate, is set to be unveiled in November, with some retailers opening in the spring.

Jul. 8--Swedish clothing giant H&M will open a store in the newly redeveloped Northgate mall this fall, mall officials said Wednesday.
Founded in Vasteras, Sweden, in 1947, Hennes & Mauritz -- now branded as H&M -- opened its first U.S. store in New York City in 2000.

May 28--It took 12 years to pull off, but The Commons at Southtowne shopping center in Sandy is open, replete with retail tenants, and tapping consumer dollars in the fast-growing area of Salt Lake County.
Work picked up again two years ago, and now the 225,000-square-foot Commons is a fact.
Nordstrom Rack is a wonderful tenant to put in a small mall like this," said John Thackeray, manager of Salt Lake City-based Johansen-Thackeray.

FBR Capital analyst Craig Berger says Intel posted stronger-than-expected first quarter results but issued somewhat tepid second quarter guidance, which will likely drive some "sell-the-news" profit taking in the coming days.
Despite the upgrade, Wilde kept his target price at $11 and warned that first-quarter results [coming out April 30] could be modest.
A Deutsche Bank analyst cut the opinion on Starbucks shares to sell, with a $7 price target.

Apr. 9--COLONIE -- A Connecticut developer has proposed a four-story hotel on Route 7 in Latham, continuing the pace of change along a rapidly redeveloping strip.
Waterford Group LLC would build a 102-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott on a scraggly, vacant site just west of Northway Exit 6.
Proposed for 676 Troy-Schenectady Road, the hotel would be adjacent to a newly constructed strip mall that contains a Verizon Wireless store and a Dunkin' Donuts shop.

Chipotle Coming to York Town Center in the Fall

Feb. 24--A restaurant chain specializing in Mexican food opens its doors this fall in the York Town Center in Springettsbury Township, Realtors announced Friday.
Since the first opening, the restaurant chain has grown to 830 locations, according to Chipotle's Web site.
Other restaurants at the center include Chili's, Five Guys and Longhorn Steakhouse.

Baker's Square Might Need Anchor

Feb. 7--Stein Mart's announcement that it will close its store at 13415 West Center Road in May means Baker's Square might soon be without an anchor store.
Petco, which occupies a third large space, will close Feb. 22 and reopen a day later in L Street Marketplace near 125th and L Streets.
Jeff Keating, vice president of PDM Inc., which owns Baker's Square, said Friday that he had not been notified by Stein Mart that the store, which sells upscale clothing and other merchandise at discounted prices, would close.
