Bank Video Offers Lead to Missing McPhatter: 2 Men in Columbia Seen Trying to Use Card of the Charlottean on Day of Her Disappearance.

May 21--Two men captured on bank surveillance tapes trying to use a bank card belonging to a missing Charlotte woman are "subjects of interest" in the case, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Wednesday.
Nikki McPhatter, 30, a US Airways ticket agent who lives in northwest Charlotte, was last seen May4 at work.
She hasn't been heard from since calling a friend May6 in Columbia and saying she was out of gas.

Owners Looking to Food Banks for Pet Chow

CHARLOTTE, N.C. _ Peggy Cole of Charlotte, N.C., went to the Pet Food Bank last week because she couldn't afford to buy food for her two dogs and a cat.
Officials at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C., Police's Animal Care and Control and Second Harvest Food Bank said Tuesday they hope to begin providing relief next week.
Groups are setting up barrels to solicit donations of pet food, which will be distributed by food banks that Second Harvest serves.

BRIEF: CMPD Graduates Officers Today

Feb. 18--The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police will graduate 39 new officers today, and five current officers will receive promotions.
The graduation ceremonies take place this afternoon at the Police and Fire Training Academy on Shopton Road in southwest Charlotte.
Five officers today will be promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Wrecks Today: 2 Police Cars, 1 Ambulance

Feb. 10--Two Charlotte-Mecklenburg police cars and a Stanly County ambulance have been involved in crashes today in Charlotte.
The first incident happened about 8:50 a.m., when an ambulance carrying a patient from Stanly County was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on Albemarle Road at Harrisburg Road.
Eric Morrison, a spokesman for Medic, Mecklenburg County's emergency medical service, said the ambulance was carrying a patient to a Charlotte hospital.

Main Roads Improve; Icy Spots Remain

Feb. 4--Road conditions are improving at midday, after an overnight snowfall that froze on many Charlotte-area roadways, closing schools and causing dozens of wrecks.
Sunshine and temperatures climbing slowly into the upper 20s are helping melt the ice that crusted on roads in the region.
State and city road crews have spread slag on bridges, overpasses and hills, which were the site of many wrecks earlier this morning.

Surprise Snow Closes CMS, Other Schools; Roads Slick

UNC Charlotte has delayed the start of classes until 10 a.m.
As was the case with a snowstorm last month, the worst conditions appear to be east of Charlotte.

BRIEF: Lockdown Lifted at Two CMS Elementary Schools

Jan. 15--The lockdown at two east Charlotte elementary schools has been lifted -- following a shooting in the area earlier this afternoon that killed one man.
The two schools, Windsor Park Elementary and Winterfield Elementary, went into lockdown mode about 1:50 p.m. as police looked for a suspect in the shooting.
Students remained in classrooms, and were't be allowed to leave the schools until Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said it was safe, said Cynthia Robbins, a spokeswoman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

BRIEF: Police Chief Meeting in South Charlotte

Jan. 15--Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Rodney Monroe will meet tonight with residents and business representatives from two south Charlotte divisions.
The community meeting will be at 6 p.m., for the Providence and South police divisions.
Since becoming CMPD's chief last June, Monroe has been meeting with groups around Charlotte.

BRIEF: Teenager Shot Multiple Times Near Uptown

Jan. 13--Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man tonight they say shot a teenager multiple times outside 727 E. 17th St., north of uptown.
Cedric Jones, 18, was taken to Presbyterian Hospital by a witness to the shooting.
He was shot in the pelvic area about 5:30 p.m. and currently is in stable but critical condition, police said.

Jan. 12--Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking Reginald Peters, a convicted sex offender who they say cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet.
Peters is wanted for violating his probation and failing to register as a sex offender.
Anyone with information on where Peters might be is urged to call the CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team at (704) 336-VCAT.

In tandem with pediatricians and other healthcare providers nationally, CompuMed is providing electrocardiogram screening services to children and teenagers prior to prescribing or taking psychotropic medications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a safety warning recently about stimulant medications in children which referenced a possible association between the use of stimulant medications for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, known as ADHD, and sudden cardiac death in healthy children. It referenced a study just published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. The FDA also warned parents that they should not stop a child's stimulant medication based on the study.[More...]
