EIA Reports Surprise Gas Build - Analyst Blog

In its weekly release yesterday, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a surprise 2 billion cubic feet (Bcf) addition to natural gas stockpiles for the week ended November 27, far off analyst expectations that hoped for inventories to remain flat, or possibly even show a drawdown. This takes the current storage level to a new record high of 3.84 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), which is up 14.0% from last year's level and 14.5% above the five-year range (as clear from the nearby chart from the EIA). Current stocks are 470 Bcf above last year’s level and 487 Bcf above the five-year average. TiVo Inc. (TIVO), the creator of the digital video recorder, recently reported second quarter fiscal year 2010 results. The company delivered improved results compared to its guidance. Dollar Financial Corporation’s (DLLR) fourth quarter earnings came in at 39 cents per share, ahead of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 35 cents per share. However, total revenues declined to $124.4 million from $150.3 million in the same quarter last year. Micros Systems (MCRS) designs, manufactures, markets, and services enterprise information solutions for the hospitality and specialty retail industries. Yesterday, the company posted better-than-expected results for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009. Earlier today, PetroChina Company Ltd. (PTR) reported results for the six months ended June 30, 2009. Net income for the period was 50.5 billion yuan ($7.4 billion), down more than 7% from 54.4 billion yuan ($7.7 billion) a year earlier.[More...]

Water is, by far, the most important element we need to survive. You can go a month without eating, but not even a week without water. Lack of adequate drinking water has killed almost 800,000 people this year. Now politicians are throwing billions of taxpayer dollars at water and wastewater systems. The markets had a bad day, as the Dow Jones closed down -0.19% to 8,410.65. The NASDAQ was down -0.54% closing at 1754.12, while the S&P was down -0.38% closing at 903.80. Oil and gold were both down settling at $53.84 and $904.30 respectively. The price of the 10-year was down, as yields closed at 3.163%. According to many unnamed sources, American International Group (AIG: 1.73, +0.27 (+18.49%)) will not be one of the supposed ten to nineteen financial institutions that the U.S. government will announce need to raise capital levels. Telephone billing scam: Expanded state law cracks down on 'cramming': Scheme tacks on charges that customers never requested

Nov. 30--Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has beefed up an existing state law to target companies that add charges to consumers' telephone bills for services they never ordered, a scam known as "cramming."
Cramming happens when a third-party provider responsible for billing customers on behalf of phone companies adds services, such as enhanced voice mail, without a customer's consent.
The amendment to the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, which Quinn signed Sunday, calls for third-party providers to disclose any new charges and terms, and requires an independent party to confirm with customers any new services before they are billed.
