By Ted Butler A number of different factors have converged, creating what could be a lift-off point for the price of silver (and gold). This confluence of readily verifiable factors shows the silver market to be in a low risk and high reward situation. The factors involve both the paper and physical silver markets. The only question, as always, is if the manipulators, led by JPMorgan and protected by the CFTC, can thwart the set up once prices rally. The structure in the paper markets, as defined by the CFTC’s latest Commitment of Traders (COT) and Bank Participation Reports, as well as the year-end OTC Derivatives Report by The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, are extremely bullish on any objective historical basis. Wells Fargo News Pushes The Bears Back On Their Heels

The market is sharply higher in early trading, after finishing on a strong note last yesterday. Before the open, Wells Fargo (WFC) announced its earnings would be double consensus estimates. They said the Wachovia business they acquired is doing well, and also said that net charg-offs for Q1 would be $3.3 billion, down nicely from last quarter's $6.1 billion incurred. This news throws a wrench in the bears' argument that banks would announce terrible earnings, and lead a new leg down in the market. Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Loves the Senate Yesterday, the Senate voted to push back the cut-off date for digital television until June. Unfortunately, the delay won’t leave some consumers in the dark. Television stations will have the option to delay the conversion, or proceed as planned on Feb. 17 – meaning they can shut down their antenna as soon as they want. Digital TV a Boon to Satellite and Cable Unless the Obama administration changes something between now and February 17th, all televisions that don’t receive their TV signal digitally will cease working. PHILADELPHIA - Comcast Corp. is buying control of NBC Universal from GE largely because Comcast wants to own more movies and TV shows.
It's understandable why the strategy might seem dubious: Another media company, Time Warner Inc., just gave up on that and spun off its cable TV division.
Yet while Comcast seems to be taking a different approach - marrying entertainment content with the largest cable TV system in the nation - it and Time Warner have arrived at the same conclusion: The future is in content, and the pipes that carry it matter less.
