Today's Playbook On Health Insurance Stocks, Post- Public Option

In an astute political move, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sibelius on Sunday said that providing citizens with the option of government-run insurance is not essential to the Obama administration's overhaul of U.S. health care. Evidently, the administration has caved on this very important issue, leaving the door open for private health insurance companies to move forward with creative products and profits for shareholders. Of course the devil will be in the details, but at fist glance Team Obama will expand health using cooperatives similar to the public/private scheme in the domestic utility industry. Healthcare investing trends in 2009 and beyond will be affected by the new administration's plans for healthcare reform, which are summarized at the Change.gov website. A key feature of the plan is making health insurance coverage possible for all Americans using the existing network of insurers and providers. The plan relies on tax credits for small businesses and eligible individuals to help pay the cost of health insurance premiums. Also, large employers which do not offer health insurance benefits would be required to contribute a percentage of their payroll toward the cost of healthcare for their employees. Insurance companies would be required to cover pre-existing conditions and the insurance market will be reformed to eliminate anti-competitive practices, including the creation of a National Health Insurance Exchange with a variety of affordable health insurance options.[More...]

For the last few days, we've been seeing rallies in the market, especially in the weak oversold sectors like Financials, Homebuilders and Consumer Discretionary. Waste to Be Taken to Utah

Aug. 7--Thousands of drums of uranium are headed out of the Savannah River Site to long-term storage in Utah.
The 14,800 drums of Savannah River Site waste, depleted uranium oxide (DUO), will be shipped using 52 DOE-owned gondola railcars and then disposed of at an EnergySolutions Inc.'s Tooele County facility about 80 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The shipments, which will take place over a 14-month period, are in the hands of Cavanagh Services Group Inc, a Salt Lake City-based radioactive waste shipment and disposal company.
