I don’t mean to pick on CNBC but every day they seem to come up with something dumber.Today they are running clips of Gordon Gekko telling Charlie Sheen that fund managers can’t beat the S&P 500 because they are sheep, and sheep get slaughtered. While that is very true, these numbnuts use it as the lead-in to tell you to watch their analysts’ picks of the day! Do they even understand the clips they are showing you? According to the WSJ, Dade Behring (DADE) has been sounding out potential buyers of the co and could be close to striking a deal. A number of strategic buyers are possible for the co. One co that is a likely candidate is Siemens (SI). The situation remains fluid and could well fall apart. Dade is scheduled to report 2Q results today.According to the WSJ, Chrysler's (DCX) attempt to tap debt mkts for $20bn hit a critical juncture as bankers began discussing the likelihood that they will have to step up with a large part of the money because investor demand hasn't been strong enough. Key West High School make alternative energy: Students at Key West High School are learning about alternative energy firsthand -- by making biodiesel to power a school bus and participating in a wind turbine pilot program.

Nov. 22--KEY WEST -- The oil once used to fry grouper and conch fritters in Key West restaurants is now fueling an old Mercedes-Benz and soon could be powering a school bus.
At Key West High School, in the building that once housed auto shop classes, honors physics students have learned how to make small amounts of biodiesel fuel from donated grease, methanol and potassium hydroxide.
"It's very exciting for the students that basically grease, moonshine and drain cleaner can run a school bus," science teacher Josh Clearman said.

Sep. 15--David Neill, a three-year veteran on the City-County Utility Commission, took the oath of office yesterday to become the new chairman of the group that oversees water, sewer and solid waste activities in the county.
Neill replaced Pat Swann, who retired from the commission on July 13 after long involvement in the water and sewer affairs of the city and county.
"I was at the first utility commission meeting in 1976," Swann told the panel yesterday as he received a resolution and a plaque honoring his service.

Sep. 5--As the economy crumbled last year, Park Place Dealerships took an uncharacteristic step back.
But after months of lower new-vehicle sales, Park Place and other area luxury dealerships see signs that the lofty segment -- once thought to be recession-proof -- is stirring again.
Although area luxury car sales remain down 15 percent to 30 percent depending on the brand, many dealers say business has slowly improved.

Manatee Firm Signs Deal With Taiwanese Manufacturer

Sep. 1--MANATEE -- A southern Manatee County design firm is partnering with a Taiwanese company to develop a new line of folding electric bicycles.
The deal between Robrady Inc., 1040 Commerce Blvd. N., and DK City Corp. closed last week after negotiations began in February, according to a news release issued Saturday.
"With Robrady's fantastic design ability and our production capability as well as our established sales network, success is just around the corner," said Hans Huang, DK City's president, in a statement.

Satisfaction With U.S. Cars at All-Time High

Aug. 18--Consumer satisfaction with domestic automobiles is at an all-time high, and now equals satisfaction levels for Japanese products, according to the latest check by a University of Michigan group.
The American Customer Satisfaction Index, based on a survey in April, May and June nationwide of about 10,000 respondents, checks in on the automobile industry in the second quarter of each year.
Meanwhile, Cadillac, along with Lexus, led the industry in customer satisfaction with a high score of 89, with Cadillac gaining almost 5 percent and Lexus gaining 2 percent.

Apple Tops PC Industry in Consumer Satisfaction

Aug. 18--When it comes to feeling the love from consumers, Apple remains atop the PC heap, while Detroit is pleasing more customers with its cars, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index, which is being released today.
Hewlett-Packard inched up 1 percent and its Compaq division jumped 6 percent.
Overall consumer sentiment of the PC industry nudged up 1 percent after two years of declines, which had been attributed to user problems with the Windows Vista operating system.

Vegetable Oil Fuels 9,000 Mile Road Trip

Aug. 3--Vegetable oil might be a common necessity in the kitchen, but for Jason Barnes of Richland and his two friends, it was an essential ingredient for a summer road trip.
Barnes, 22, and his friends Joe Norskov, 23, of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Stephen Shankles, 23, of Knoxville, Tenn., spent the month of June driving more than 9,000 miles from Tennessee across the Midwest, into Washington, down Highway 101 to California, through the Grand Canyon and back to Tennessee.
And they did it in a 1983 300D turbo Mercedes Benz powered by vegetable oil.
