New Home Sales Rise!

In a very positive sign for the economy, new home sales rose by 6.2% in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 430,000. This far exceeded consensus expectations for an annual new home sales rate of just 404,000. While new home sales are just a small fraction of total homes sales -- on Monday, it was reported that Existing Homes Sales were at an annual rate of 6.1 million -- new home sales pack a much bigger punch for the economy.[More...]

In October, Housing Starts fell to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of just 529,000, a 10.6% decline from September and down 30.7% from a year ago.? That puts housing starts at their lowest level since April, and takes a lot of steam out of the incipient economic recovery.[More...]

Once again we see another disguised bailout. Remember that Obama said the bailouts were over, instead they just disguise them. On Nov. 6, President Obama signed the Worker, Homeownership and Business Assistance Act of 2009 into law, extending unemployment benefits by 20 weeks and renewing the first-time homebuyer tax credit until next April.[More...]

Recently, I visited a large D R Horton community near Calabash, North Carolina. I took a seasoned local contractor acquaintance with me for company, comments and to catch up on the local gossip. As we all know, home builders for the most part have been slow to adjust to the new economy of change and at the lower end of the new home price point spectrum, even slower to produce a 21st century residence which includes the energy saving expectations and and construction applications at a less than rip-off price to unsuspecting entry-level homebuyer.[More...]
