Moody's Upgrades Debt Rating On DPL & Subsidiary

Dayton, Ohio-based diversified energy utility DPL Inc. (DPL) and its subsidiary Dayton Power and Light Company were upgraded by Moody's Investors Service. On last Friday, June 26, Moody's upgraded the parent's senior unsecured debt rating to Baa1 from Baa2 and the subsidiary's senior secured debt rating to A1 from A2. The upside came from an approval for ESP settlement establishing rates till 2012 from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). The ESP was originally filed in October 2008 as required by Ohio Amended Substitute Senate Bill No.221 (SB 221). Nine Notable Dividend Increases

Several large companies announced dividend increases over the past week. One of the most notable bullish calls came from the telecom sectors as AT&T (T) showed confidence in its business model by increasing its dividend payment to shareholders for the twenty fifth consecutive years. Despite the tough macroeconomic conditions AT&T (T) is still committed to raising its quarterly dividend. The board announced a 2.5% increase of the quarterly payment to to $0.41/share. Agco Corp. (AG) reported second quarter EPS of $1.34, above our estimate at $0.90, due to a smaller-than-expected loss in North America and continued robust growth in South America and the EMEA [Europe, Middle East and Asia] region. The sales growth was broad-based, with every geographic region posting a double-digit sales increase. The growth in commercial farm income and acreage is driving demand for high-horsepower tractors. While North America reported a loss, we expect a second-half profit recovery on the back of favorable currency translation, higher margins and double-digit sales growth. Our target price is $63.50, or 16.4x our FY08 EPS estimate. We were extremely pleased by the narrower loss in North America. DPL Reports Higher Earnings for Third Quarter

Oct. 29--DAYTON -- DPL Inc. earned $67.9 million during the three months ended Sept. 30, or 59 cents per share, up from $48 million and 42 cents per share in the third quarter last year, the company said Wednesday, Oct. 28.
DPL, owner of the Dayton Power and Light Co., said it increased its electricity generating output by 23 percent during the latest quarter, improving profit margins and reducing the need to buy power from outside the system to meet customer demand.
Controlling costs also helped to offset the effects of the economic downturn and milder than usual weather that reduced demand for electricity, said Paul Barbas, DPL's president and chief executive officer.
