Credit Suisse is upgrading Digital River (NASDAQ:DRIV) to Outperform from Neutral with a $44 price target (prev. $37.50). Firm notes that with reaccelerating year-over-year revenue growth forecasted for the second half of 2009 and 2010 and EPS reacceleration beginning in the December 2009 quarter, combined with potential upside to near-term consensus estimates for the September quarter, they view the risk/reward of Digital River’s stock as attractive. Because of these near-term drivers, as well as their positive thesis regarding the company’s long-term growth opportunity as an On Demand e-commerce platform provider, they are upgrading Digital River from Neutral to Outperform.[More...]

More Cash, Less Debt = Stock Market Gains?

Today there were a couple of posts about how tech stocks are currently especially attractive because they hold plenty of cash and tend to have little debt. Paul Kedrosky initially caught my eye with his post "Tech Cash is King" which in turn pointed me to a story on Bloomberg by Eric Martin. I ran a screen tonight that looked at both cash and debt. Specifically, I screened for a Price-to-Cash ratio under three, a Debt-to-Equity ratio under three and a Market Cap greater than $2.5 million. Based on these criteria, I obtained a list of 136 stocks. Judging from our list, it is absolutely true that many tech stocks do seem to have lots of cash and little debt. Activist Offers $1.10/Share for Global Med Technologies

Global Med Technologies (OTC: GLOB) is trading well below its intrinsic valuation, according to at least one activist hedge fund. Victory Park Capital principal Richard Levy insisted in a letter to the board that if the equity markets do not reflect the value of the company then it is incumbent upon the board to take action to realize that value for shareholders. As a result, Victory Park recommended one of two options: Publicly auction the company for sale to a strategic or financial buyer. Pursue a buyout transaction led by Victory Capital.
