Virtual Funds: Energy Fund's Ranking/Performance in Q3 '08 And Overall

This has been a tough year and a very tough 3rd quarter for all sectors. Energy was affected as much if not worse than most of the other sectors. Here I will detail the performance of the virtual mutual fund I've set up for the Energy sector on the Marketocracy web site. Cisco breaking $27 support intraday, though I’m staying long

I’ve recently bought a couple lots of Cisco (CSCO) from $27.50 to $29.50, thinking that I had near term support at $27. As of this writing, CSCO has broken through the $27 level, and now sits near $26.25, which surprised me. Normally, you’re supposed to sell when a stock breaks a support level, but I’m thinking of this as a long term position (at least one year), so I won’t try to sell it and pick it up cheaper.I had thought that the sell off from $34, after their last earnings announcement where they beat their quarterly number but the stock sold off 10% nonetheless, was overdone and that the $27 to $29 range represented a good buying opportunity.[More...]

Barron’s cover discusses favorably JP Morgan (JPM), saying that the co isn't immune to current banking problems. It wrote down $1.3bn of its leveraged-loan portfolio in the 3Q. It's been nicked by its subprime business, home-equity loans in particular, for which it recently added $306m to its loss reserves. But the big investment and commercial bank has fared better than many of its peers, and its stock has held up better, too, falling 4% for the yr. The co provides the best evidence yet that a well-driven banking behemoth can negotiate the harrowing curves of the world's financial mkts. And when the road straightens out, JPMorgan could really accelerate. Thus far, it's shown a talent for avoiding the worst of the subprime wreckage, thanks to risk-conscious CEO Jamie Dimon's firm hand on the wheel. Thomasville Utilities to Host Appreciation Day

Oct. 23--THOMASVILLE -- Thomasville Utilities plans to honor its customers with an annual Customer Appreciation Day Tuesday at Cherokee Lake Park.
The free event is 5:30 to 7 p.m. and all Thomasville Utilities City of Thomasville's customers are invited to attend, Sherri Nix, director of customer support, said.
Thomasville Utilities is celebrating the 10th anniversary of CNS, which first began offering cable television and dial-up Internet service in August of 1999, according to the news release.
