FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 23, 2009 Flagship National Bank, Bradenton, Florida, was closed today by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver. To protect the depositors, the FDIC entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with First Federal Bank of Florida, Lake City, Florida, to assume all of the deposits of Flagship National Bank.[More...]

India to Be the Fastest-Growing Economy in 2010 The World Bank has projected (in its Global Development Finance Report) that the Indian economy will grow at 8% in 2010, which would make it the fastest-growing economy in the world for the first time, surpassing China, which is projected to grow at 7.7% rate. Earnings Review Of Note Monday-Tuesday

Some names I am looking at early this week Monday Fund holdings - Baidu.com (BIDU) and First National Financial (FNF). The former broke through the 200 day moving average Thursday but I cut it down to 1 share on super froth. The latter has been stagnat the past 8 days, with each day an intraday low hitting the 50 day moving average. Very strange. I cut back a bit to a 2.5% stake since I have double jeopardy in these guys with FNF and FAF. (8:07am ET) In his absence, Bill has asked the CTAB traders fill in for him today and maybe tomorrow as well. Bill was having connectivity and other related computer issues early Tuesday morning. Perhaps the Conficker worm virus programmed to be unleashed April 1, began slithering through the Bahamas a little ahead of schedule. The final trading day of the month opened higher, with aggressive traders nimbly positioning themselves for further short gains, after a late afternoon bounce Monday, anticipating large money managers to “mark up” equities boosting their quarter end returns. This strategy paid off nicely as the S&P future rose to 807, nearly 4% off Monday’s late afternoon low of 776. However, traders expecting prices to close near the highs were disappointed, as stocks peaked near 3pm eastern, giving up a significant portion of the day’s gains. So the Fed stands at the ready to buy the bond market. The Fed has now become the buyer of last resort in a 'guaranteed to fail' stab at lowering rates to help the housing and credit markets. Whom might I ask do you think is going to hit this taxpayer led bid by the Fed in the bond market? God forbid they let them correct (housing/credit) of their own accord, instead they will gamble our nations survival ala AIG. These actions are no different than what AIG did writing policies they could not make good on. The implications of this disaster in waiting are almost too scary to consider. Bic Group, Eastern Co. 3Q Earnings Top 2008 Numbers

Oct. 22--Two area companies reported Wednesday that, despite a challenging economy, their earnings for the third quarter of this year topped results from a year ago.
The Eastern Co. in Naugatuck and the French parent company of Bic Corp. in Shelton released earnings reports.
Bic Group earned $73.2 million last quarter, up about 14.5 percent from $63.9 million in the third quarter of 2008.
