Today's Wall Street Journal had an article that asked the question "Can Rally Run without Revenue?" Is the revenue situation really that bad? Let's take a quick look at some the data compiled through the Alert HQ process. After each quarter's earnings season, I try to pull together what I am now calling the Growth Report. Part 1 compiles the list of stocks that have shown a year-over-year increase in both revenue and earnings AND a sequential quarter-over-quarter increase in both revenue and earnings. Best Performing Stock of 2008

I used to, and will one day return, to posting the best performing stocks of the week - but the wicked volatility and "student body left" trading of the past 4 months has made it a moot point. Everything must either be bought or sold, as stocks are either deemed "good" or "bad" that hour, day, or month. The herd piles in, or piles out - regardless of sector, style, fundamentals. It's been a market of asset allocation not individual stocks much of the back half of the year. I like to look for relative strength and ride sector/company trends for the longer term - this market is not for that sort of investor. This has been for many months a run and gun daytrader environment; not a place for theme investors. Stocks Crumble; Investors Look Ahead To An Obama Presidency

Stocks sell off hard at the end of the day as volume picked up into the close. The stock market is a great discounter of the future. Wednesday’s action can be construde as what we will expect from the stock market under Presdient Obama. Volume on the day was lower than Tuesday’s action, somewhat of a silver lining. Last week we saw the major indicies move higher on lighter trade and now we are beginning to see the complete opposite. If volume begins to swell to the downside it’ll be important to watch our prior October low. There isn’t much out there to speak off. Some recent charts like EMS and APEI are simply too whippy and will be proned to nasty reversals. Price action in charts are not tight for example take a look at RHIE. Best Perfomers Over Last Quarter

It is a moot point looking at weekly winners this week; just a handful of stocks moving up led by such growers as Campbell Soup (CPB) aka "people will still need to eat soup if nothing else" trade. So instead I am going to look at the best and worst performers the past 3 months. In this post we have every stock over $1.25B in market cap returning 15%+ (115 stocks) Now keep in mind the data is a bit misleading because 3 months ago at this time we were in the throes of another painful correction, in a series of step ladders down. About 90 days ago Fannie and Freddie and Lehman were falling off a cliff, and we were just over a week away from Hank Paulson going to Congress to create a plan to backup Fannie/Freddie. So this was a "bottom" and the financials rallied hard for the next 6-7 weeks - Fannie/Freddie of course were officially taken over within 2 months from that point.[More...]

TTM Technologies Could be Sitting Pretty

My latest column is up at RealMoney.TTM Technologies (TTMI) manufactures printed circuit boards for the high-end commercial and aerospace/defense markets. The company focuses on a “quick-turn” model that can provide custom-fabricated PCBs to customers within as little as 24 hours. This strategy allows TTM to charge a premium for quick-turn services (which account for 15% of total revenue) and insulates TTM from the extreme cyclicality faced by most electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers. Beating Victim Files Suit Against EMS

Oct. 25--Brian Lanese, the Bluffton resident severely beaten in his backyard a year ago whose case prompted questions about the quality of ambulance service in Beaufort County, has filed a lawsuit against Beaufort County EMS.
Attorneys for Lanese, 34, filed the suit on Oct. 2.
