JNJ's Disappointing Guidance

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) reported fourth quarter 2008 financial results this morning. Revenue for the fourth quarter came in at $15.2 billion, about $1.0 billion below our forecast and down 5% from the same period in 2007. Much of the short-fall in revenues can be explained by foreign exchange, having a 4% negative impact on quarter for J&J. Operational growth declined by 1.0%. The Consumer, Pharmaceutical, and Medical Devices segments posted growth of 10.5%, (1.2%), and 6.4%, respectively in the quarter. The Consumer segment continues to benefit from the recent launch of OTC Zyrtec in the U.S. and the skin care business lead by Neutrogena and Aveeno. OmniVision (OVTI) is a fabless OEM (an original equipment manufacturer who outsources chip fabrication) of image sensors and support circuitry used within handsets and applications in other mass markets. The Sunnyvale, CA firm is currently rated a Hold with a $15 target price. Shares have fallen from $24+ peak just about one year ago, now trading just over $12 per share. The shares have traded down over the last two months, but we are reiterating our Hold rating in view of uncertainties in consumer spending and possible market share losses in China. HUNTINGTON, W.Va., July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Energy Services of America announced today that the company had a net income of $588,463 for the three months ended June 30, 2009 compared to net income of $178,109 for the same period in 2008.
The increase in third quarter results reflects the company's execution of its original plan which was slowed down significantly by the severe recession the country is experiencing.
The difficult economic environment during the past nine months resulted in the Company incurring a loss for the nine months ended June 30, 2009 of $4,474,088 compared to a profit of $717,619 for the prior year for the same nine month period.

Energy Services of America Company Announces Results for the Three Months Ended December 31, 2008

Energy Services of America announced today that the company had a loss of $2,194,509 for the three months ended December 31, 2008 compared to a profit of $354,786 for the same period in 2007. Marshall T. Reynolds, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, noted that while the company was not happy with incurring the loss for the quarter, this industry normally has weak performance in the fourth calendar quarter as well as its weakest performance in the first calendar quarter of the year, reflecting lower construction during the winter season. "This loss was the result of two particular projects at one of our operating subsidiaries which lost $3.2 million for the quarter and those losses more than offset the normal performance at the other subsidiaries. The losses resulted from inclement weather and other adverse working conditions which hampered progress on the work on these projects during the quarter. Excluding the losses on those two projects, the results would have been at close a loss of approximately $200 thousand or $0.02 per share . We believe that this was an unusual occurrence and not indicative of future performance. The need for additional pipelines to get natural gas to consumers still exists and looks to continue in the foreseeable future." Edsel Burns, president of ESA, echoed Mr. Reynolds comments. Energy Services of America Corporation announced today that for the year ended September 30, 2008, the company had earnings of $2,811,158 versus $1,381,062 for the year ended September 30, 2007. The earnings per share for the year ended September 30, 2008 was $0.26 per share basic and $0.21 per share fully diluted compared to $0.13 and $0.11 respectively for the year ended September 30, 2007. On August 15, 2008, Energy Services completed the acquisitions of ST Pipeline and C J Hughes Construction.
