Bloomberg had this article out about how the U.S. housing market lost $3.3 trillion in 2008 AND that 1 in 6 people with mortgages are underwater, or 17%. It's not getting any better. We have pending home sales coming out today at 10:00AM - consensus 82.3 (range: 78.2 to 84, previous actual: 82.3). I'll be really surprised if pending sales remained "unchanged". Motor vehicle sales are also coming out (total consensus: 7.7M (range:7.3M to 8.1M, previous actual: 7.7M). This is another consensus estimate where it is also "unchanged". Whatever. Volatility Continues, Where Are We Headed?

Big news, markets were up 4% today. Big market swings continued today and look they are here to stay for a while. During today's session the market made three swings of 3% or more. I would still be very cautious in this market. I prefer daytrading this market and refuse to hold positions overnight, too dangerous. The trendline has been very strong resistance and it looks like will butt heads with it again. I hope we get there by Friday as Friday's payroll data could provide the catalyst to breakthrough this trendline. I still like CVX, ETR, and XOM as I think they are poised for big moves ahead.[More...]

Fourth Worst Drop Ever

Friday we hit overbought conditions on decreasing volume, which led me to believe that we would see some short-term consolidation, however, I did not expect a 679 point loss on the Dow. The theme still seems to be global liquidation and the explosive rally over the last week or so only fueled the fire. Looking at the daily chart of the SPDR's and it is easy to see the downtrend is still very much intact. The shorter timeframe does not provide much solace for the bulls either. A move to recognize the DeSoto County Regional Utility Authority on a sign for the county's greenways project sparked a debate Tuesday over the Utility Authority's role in the greenways effort.
Larry Jarrett, coordinator of the DeSoto County Greenways project, appeared during the Utility Authority board meeting and, in addition to being grilled about the greenways initiative, generated some controversy over the sign.
The board ultimately voted to allow the Utility Authority's name to be placed on a sign marking the beginning of the proposed Johnson Creek Trail near U.S. 61.
