Lee Enterprises Reports Results for Third Fiscal Quarter

Jul. 30--DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Lee Enterprises Inc. (NYSE: LEE) reduced cash operating expenses, excluding unusual items, 22 percent in its third fiscal quarter ended June 28, 2009, as operating revenue declined 20.5 percent.
Lee is the parent company of The Times and Democrat in Orangeburg, S.C., and 48 other daily newspapers.
Including non-cash impairment charges, Lee recorded a loss per diluted common share of 55 cents for the quarter, compared with earnings of 6 cents per share a year ago.

Kent-Based Flow Calls Off Merger With Smaller Water-Jet Rival Omax

May 13--Industrial water-jet maker Flow International of Kent called off a long-delayed merger with smaller rival Omax after twice revising its offer.
"We believe that our path forward alone is far superior to one combined with Omax at the wrong price," Flow CEO Charley Brown said Tuesday in a conference call with investors.
Omax, also based in Kent, will receive a $35 million payment from Flow to cancel the merger obligation and also to settle patent litigation pending between the two companies for five years.

Flow Drops Deal to Buy Rival Waterjet Maker Omax

May 12--Industrial waterjet maker Flow International of Kent has called off its proposed merger with smaller rival Omax, also of Kent.
Omax will receive a $35 million payment from Flow, both to cancel the merger obligation and also to settle patent litigation that has been pending between the two companies for five years.
In 2007, publicly traded Flow offered $109 million in cash and stock for privately held Omax, but after the economy sagged Flow last year reduced the offer to $75 million.

Four Area Counties Among 46 on Poverty List

Apr. 30--Calhoun, Jersey, Macoupin and Madison counties are among 46 Illinois counties placed on a poverty watch list, a social research agency announced today.
According to the 2009 Report on Illinois Poverty by Heartland Alliance's Mid-America Institute on Poverty, the Alton area economy is on "high alert" because of poverty indicators.
Madison and Macoupin also were on the list last year.

Flow International Announces Fiscal 2010 First Quarter Results

KENT, Wash., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Flow International Corporation , the world's leading developer and manufacturer of industrial waterjet machines for cutting and cleaning applications, today reported results for its fiscal 2010 first quarter ended July 31, 2009.
The net loss for the quarter just ended includes a total of $6.0 million in pre-tax charges, consisting of a net charge of $3.2 million related to the termination of the OMAX transaction, $1.6 million for severance and other related charges associated with its cost reduction efforts, and approximately $1.2 million for a reserve related to a business sold in October 2005 that was classified as a discontinued operation.
Excluding those charges and the related tax effects, the net loss would have been $2.7 million or $0.07 loss per share in the current quarter.
