Another Huge Day For The Bulls

It was another huge day for the bulls, as the market exploded after a brief early morning dip, and then ramped up in stair-step fashion for the rest of the day, closing near the highs for the day. The day did start out with a dip that retested yesterday afternoon?s lows but held right there. When they turned around sharply they really started to accelerate. Within 30 minutes they took out the double-top from yesterday on the NDX, and within an hour took out the SPX highs. At that point it was bombs away, as the market kept rolling until it reached as high as 7184 and change on the Dow, 752 and change on the SPX and 1167 and change on the NDX. Net on the day the Dow was up 240 to 7170, the S&P 500 up 29.38 to 750.74, and the Nasdaq 100 up 38.76 to 1164.71.
Indices Reach Extreme Oversold Levels By Harry Boxer, The Technical Trader (www.thetechtrader.com) It was an extremely negative way to start the week, but that's been customary in this bear market. The indices started with big gaps down, tried to rally early on but didn't last long, and then rolled over and sold off steadily until early afternoon when they tried another rally that lacked thrust and rolled over in the last hour to close near the lows for the day. Net on the day the Dow was down 300 to 6763, the S&P 500 down 34 1/4 to 700.84, and the Nasdaq 100 down 40.32 to 1076.67. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOXX) was down 10.03 to 188.97. The technicals were nearly climactic today. There were only 188 advancers on New York with 2939 down. On Nasdaq the ratio was about 337 up to 2500 down.
Back-and-Fill Session Has Disappointing Close

Back-and-Fill Session Has Disappointing Close By Harry Boxer, The Technical Trader (www.thetechtrader.com) The stock market indices ended the week on a down note, but they certainly had some volatility. Initially, the markets sold off from the opening on Friday, held support, and then bounced to new rally highs, reaching 1250 NDX and 840 SPX. But that was right at important secondary resistance. They failed to get through, and then had an orderly 5-wave decline that lasted until mid-day. Just before lunch hour the indices reached support and bounced sharply to retest the highs but fell short, pulled back again late afternoon, bounced in the last hour but again couldn't get through and in the last 5 minutes sold off quite sharply, with the NDX dropping 8 points and the S&P 500 more than 6 points. It was a disappointing close, with the Dow down more than 82 to 7850, the[More...]

Another Day, Another Selloff; Higher Volume On The Selloff Indicates Fear Is Rising

It was yet another day of huge losses for the stock market as most indexes are now down over 45% for the year. This kind of market action is enough to make a lot of people sick. But that is the last thing you want to do here, especially with the selloff starting to slightly hit panic levels. Now, I am not saying that we are near a bottom what-so-ever. But what I am saying is that we are getting a little crazy with the selling and that should lead to a rally in the near term. However, before that rally occurs, I expect that we will more than likely set new lows on all the indexes. One of the reasons I believe that is possible is because after today’s session I saw that ZERO stocks on the NYSE or Nasdaq hit new 52-week highs, while over 415 stocks on each index hit new 52-week lows. This number of new lows expanding along with the non-numbers in the new highs is my warning that the market is not done with the selloff, even though it has[More...]

Ways To The Success In System Trading In Equities And Futures

In this post I am going to provide some tips and infromation about how to form yourself as a successful system trader. Why system? Trading systems are the best way to control yourself from different biases that lead to bad investment decisions. You force yourself (or just make a trading robot, who makes all trades for you) to follow the specific predefined instructions. However, it isn’t all easy. The most difficult process of the making of a trader is selecting your strategy and timing. You need to find technical indicators that will form your system and may be specific fundamental data which will generate buy/sell long-term or short term signals. There is not much real info to learn and not matter how much books you read, as the majority of your success depends upon what’s in your brain. So, here are my tips: All markets - equities, futures, FOREX or bond have its particular charting or fundamental patterns. So, finding patterns that[More...]
