Barclays is raising their target on Genworth Financial (NYSE:GNW) to $17 from $10 following the company's announcement that it will begin on Tuesday a $500 million equity-raising effort. Even though the stock is being sold at a sharp discount from book value -- and that sale of shares, therefore, will reduce Genworth's book value per share by about 7% to roughly $25 -- firm views the equity-raising effort as part of a larger successful initiative that's been under way for some time at Genworth to right itself.[More...]

Genworth Reports Profit in Third Quarter

Oct. 31--After spending more than a year in the red, Genworth Financial made profits in the third quarter.
It was the first time since the first quarter of 2008 that Genworth did not have a loss, according to its archived news releases on earnings.
The stabilization in Genworth's markets, combined with the company's growth strategies, "position us well for improved results as we move ahead," he said.
