Welcome back from the weekend! As the rest of the market returns from the holiday break, we should see more volume and volatility creep back into stocks. Only tomorrow will tell as to whether or not this is a positive or a negative for stock prices. At the moment, futures prices are trading slightly lower. The Dow is off by 44 points, the S&P down 5 points, and the Nasdaq is down 7 points. Crude oil is up another buck, trading at $47.30. Best Performing Stock of 2008

I used to, and will one day return, to posting the best performing stocks of the week - but the wicked volatility and "student body left" trading of the past 4 months has made it a moot point. Everything must either be bought or sold, as stocks are either deemed "good" or "bad" that hour, day, or month. The herd piles in, or piles out - regardless of sector, style, fundamentals. It's been a market of asset allocation not individual stocks much of the back half of the year. I like to look for relative strength and ride sector/company trends for the longer term - this market is not for that sort of investor. This has been for many months a run and gun daytrader environment; not a place for theme investors. Gentiva Reports Second Quarter 2009 Results

ATLANTA, July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gentiva Health Services, Inc. , a leading provider of comprehensive home health services, today reported the following 2009 second quarter results:
Net revenues of $298.1 million for the quarter ended June 28, 2009 compared to $344.2 million, which included net revenues of $79.3 million from its CareCentrix business unit, for the quarter ended June 29, 2008.
The Company sold a majority interest in CareCentrix to Water Street Healthcare Partners on September 25, 2008.

Gentiva(R) Health Services Signs Agreement to Acquire Home Health Agency with Offices in Mississippi and Alabama

Gentiva Health Services, Inc. , a leading provider of comprehensive home health services, announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Magna Home Health, a part of the Rush Health System, located in central Mississippi and west central Alabama. Both states require a certificate of need by county to participate in the home health program. With the addition of Magna's locations in Meridian, Mississippi, and Gilbertown, Alabama, Gentiva will expand its coverage with seven new CON counties. Gentiva already has a significant presence in these states under the Gilbert's brand in Mississippi and the Mid South brand in Alabama. 'This acquisition will solidify Gentiva's role as the pre-eminent home health provider in those two states,' said Gentiva CEO and President Tony Strange. 'We look forward to welcoming Magna's employees to the Gentiva family, as we have with our two other recent acquisitions.
