Dave Fry's Market Comments For April 28

MARKET COMMENT April 28, 2009 I wish my Money & Banking class in college was this easy—hell, even gym was hard by comparison to current bank stress tests. Basically it’s an open book test allowing banks to set their own evaluations on some toxic waste and hope investors take it all in stride. The false and misleading statements from CEOs like BAC CEO Ken Lewis are, in ordinary times, shocking. These days it passes for business as usual.[More...]

Dave Fry's Market Comments For April 27

MARKET COMMENT April 27, 2009 I’ve been posting this image quite a bit recently since the past few Monday’s have been busts. There wasn’t much to cheer about so using a swine flu outbreak panic was a good reason to sell. It seems there are plenty of reasons to sell: light volume, high PEs, the BS (or, what you don’t know can’t hurt you) from Fed bank “stress tests”, the big run-up we’ve had in prices, auto bankruptcies and so forth. As you can see volume remains comparatively weak while breadth was negative today.[More...]

MARKET COMMENT December 22, 2008 This is no way to start the holiday week is it? The only folks pleased by today’s action are those driving a Hummer and/or snowmobiling. This type of action is why Chicken Dave still maintains high cash balances at the ETF Digest. Bulls will cheer the light volume today as no big thing but you should expect this type of action in either direction until trading resumes after the New Year.[More...]

MARKET COMMENT December 16, 2008 Bernanke is living up to his reputation as helicopter drops of cash will rain on markets until his academic research is vindicated. It’s as most have been saying, “when push comes to shove politicians and officials will choose to inflate.” Theoretically, barring heavy central bank sales, investors have been given the green light to buy gold and hold it until the Fed reverses course. Uncle Buck will also take a hit.[More...]

Dave Fry's Market Comments For November 25

MARKET COMMENT November 25, 2008 The US consumer needs a credit card bailout like a crack addict needs another fix. Now we’re going to backup credit card debt and auto loans. When all this bailing out started I tossed out the old English maxim: “In for a penny, in for a pound.” That was an understatement.[More...]

MARKET COMMENT November 24, 2008 What’s so good about putting up $7.4 trillion of taxpayer money to backstop stupid banks? Then it’s said Obama wants a $700 billion stimulus plan immediately. These amounts are beyond mind-numbing.[More...]
